Wth does my xbox x keep installing games already installed?

Based on your description, you are seeing your Xbox Console updating and installing games. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

You may uncheck the Keep my games & apps up to date on the Xbox Settings to stop the automatic update or installation of your games.

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
   
2. Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates.
   
3. Under Updates, select Keep my console up to date to update your console automatically.
   
4. For the console, please unselect Keep my games & apps up to date to update games and apps automatically.

However, if you have set up your Xbox Console to remotely install and manage games. Then, these settings on Xbox may not be causing you the issue. Kindly check if the remote feature of your Xbox is enabled.

1. Sign in on your console using the same Xbox profile you’ll be using on your mobile or PC app.
   
2. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide and go to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Remote features.
   
3. Uncheck the box to disable remote features. To stop remotely accessing the Xbox for update.

Should these steps did not work in your Xbox Console. Please perform shutting down the console and restart to check if those twp things above were disabled. Let us know if the update and installation of issue persist.

Physically power cycle the console.

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will turn off.
   
2. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the Xbox button on your controller.
   

If you don't see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure that you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.

Important If your console is in Sleep mode, the above steps will shut the console off completely. Sleep mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying "Xbox on," won't be enabled until you restart the console.

Disconnect and reconnect your console's power cable

1. Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
   
2. Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 10 seconds.
   
   Important Be sure to wait at least 10 seconds. This step resets the power supply.
   
3. Plug the console power cable back in.
   
4. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

How do I fix the problem of installations being stopped for no reason. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is this on PC or Xbox? Does the install permanently stop or does is restart when you click resume then stop again? On my One X, it took me 3 days to install a game from a disc as it kept stopping after 0.2-2% and I had to keep clicking resume.

"Install to" tells me to use the XBox app.

The app only gives the option to launch the game (as it is already installed).

If it helps, I am in the UK and my console is an XBox One X.

Install the game without updating until the game completes the installation, then install the update. It should help.

Thanks for replying Jurgen, I already get the latest updates installed even after I fully reset my Xbox. Tried both the resets; one with keeping my games and apps and other without keeping them.
