    Wrong gamer tag shows up while playing game


    ok so I bought my first Xbox ever today and went threw and set it all up including changing my gamer tag from what it originally gave me. It shows the wrong tag while in game play though..... what do I do?!?!?

    First time use/setup

    Rickyjohn,
    I loaded up my 360 earlier and I have been playing X1 all week and nothing showed up on the 360. It does not show games played from the X1 or achievements. So should be ok. Let me know if you want me to check anything for you. I would of thought it would be fine to load up his gamer tag and set it all up without him knowing.

    Hello Ron,

    Thanks for coming to the forums. Is the Houdini202 an old gamer tag of yours? The reason why it is showing is you play on Activision account for Call of duty games. You will need to update the gamer tag with Activision, for it to show the correct gamer tag.

    Gamertag change issue

    You might want to check the sign in email address that you used when you were online and changed your gamer tag.

    Go back online and sign in and see if the gamer tag is showing up when you're online on the Xbox website.

    If it's showing up there correctly, then you'll want to go back to the Xbox Console and Add that account to your Xbox using that sign in email address.

    If your gamer tag is not showing up online and you were charged for the gamer tag change and it didn't take you can contact Xbox Support for a refund "maybe".

    The other possibility is that you're signed in on the Xbox console with one account and you signed in online with a different account. If that's the case then you may have changed the GT on the wrong account.

    The system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So while you might look up "gamertag" and it doesn't show up, it could actually be in use as "gamer tag". Which is the case with this tag.

    Sorry when I say the same account I mean the exact same Gamer Tag.

    So in the same game lobby in Call of Duty WWII I played on the same team.

    I took a screenshot of the game lobby to prove it.

    I have double checked it over and over.

    And if I look up my gamer tag it is showing my old avatar and not my new one. And it had the majority of my gamer points 12,303.

    On my new console my gamer tag shows 300 odd gamer points.

    Under settings, then account , all options that show something with a name show my old gamer tag, I could not find any account option under the settings, and then system option but when I play a game then it shows my new gamer tag, iv only just finished downloading a game to play, I don't understand why I still have to see my old gamer tag on everything else though
