Have you tried re downloading your gamer tag at all?, I would suggest trying to redownload the gamer tag and see if that fixes the issue and this is how to do so . Please also remember to have your email address and password are correct before removing
it from the xbox one thanks

Thanks for your help, I had tried a power cycle, which didn't work, but I got in touch with Xbox Support and was told to do a factory reset of the console (keeping the games and apps), and that worked. Hope this helps other people that encounter this problem.
