Well I'm 46 and have gamed since basically I knew about gaming, PONG, Atari, ZX81 ( not in this order ) I remember the first battery operated electronic games, Missile Strike was a classic.

Today wrapped up safely in my loft I still have ( with a few games on each ) a Vectrex System, anyone remember that? Check Google if not. Neo Geo, Spectrum 48k, Commodore 64, Amiga 1200 and a Amstrad CPC 464. Had more but gave them away. Been offered a fair
few ££££ to sell remaining but just can't do it lol

When I look back how games are today from the first games I played, makes me wonder where we will be by the time my daughter is the age I am today.

Oh and no DLC to talk about in those days ;-p

Dang!!! I remember a kid at school (over 25 years ago!), he had a Neo Geo with Metal Slug, Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown and a baseball game...it was like having an arcade machine in your home! His parents were loaded though and as good as it was, I wouldn't
have swapped my SNES for it.

I don't like Day 1 DLC (unless it's free) or DLC that's released so close to launch. DLC used to be cool extra stuff a month (or few) after launch to bring you back to the game or extend it's life. Now it just can feel more like a money grab. But I know
that's not always the case. I'm sure I wouldn't be happy if games jumped up to $75-$100 for a standard edition just to compensate. So they do what they have to do to keep the price down.

  5. If I had to make a choice between SNES and Neo Geo, SNES everyday of the week.

Neo Geo had some fantastic games but I remember Saturday trips to various gaming stores on Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road, some games ranged between £150-200 and people complain about DLC now lol ;-)

    Holy crap.

You could buy the complete "Battlefield 1" experience for that nowadays.

People were dumb then and people are dumb now.

(and that's not aimed at you)

  7. I'd never take things personally over a forum Az even if someone aimed a dig/comment at me.

Neo Geo aside, I remember some import SNES games being pricey. £99 for the import version of Street Fighter 2 and I can remember the store Marbles Shopping Center right at the end of Oxford Street, there was a gaming shop in there called Shekanas ( might
not be correct spelling ) people were queuing out of the door when they received their import copies. Crazy but still fun times.

Back to DLC though. Of course some don't mind it, others don't like it but it seems popular because if developers were not getting the sales then surely it would of stopped by now? I mean the only way it would stop is if enough people got together and said
    enough is enough surely?

Even here though I've seen people many times complain about this and other gaming related things but yet I've seen the same people talk about DLC they have played so why do they spend money on the very thing they sometimes complain about?

I would like to see some real examples of all these games with cut content? I think it's more of a perception than a reality.

  9. I wouldn't expect every game I buy to be a 100 hour + RPG length but I'm struggling to think of one game I've bought and thought loads was missing.

Is it more a case of some get their money's worth out of a game and others don't?

  10. Some games like racing seem to be releasing games where most stuff is common to previous releases.

So rather have a series of DLC for those, and patches for improvements.

But guess the way it works is that investors wants a deadline that is yesterday, and developers want endless resources to continue same enterprise.

And a sequel may be developed by another company as well.

So DLC is a compromise on this.

But usually we see Day 1 version to purchase, as well as complete edition with all bling-bling in it.

So we can usually get it all for decent price later - but not consolation for early adopters I guess.

@Old Lofty I couldn't wait to watch TWD or Game of Thrones, because those shows get spoiled quickly, so I always feel like I have to watch them straight away. But I do like to binge shows on Netflix.

Also I don't mind episodic games and waiting for the next episode, and I will admit I can't play games as long as I used to so it kinda gives me a break.

I will not support the idea of cutting content from the game so that there will be day 1 (or near day 1) DLC, so I would never pay for a game like that. Adding DLC months after the release I'm fine with. I also wouldn't pay a higher price for the game +
DLC straight away. If the game's good and the DLC looks like it's worth the money I'll pay for the DLC when it's time to get it. I would never buy a €90 game just to get the season pass included.

^^ I hate that approach as it doesn't suit me. It seems like episodic gaming suits you more as it seems you only put an hour or 2 into any given game. I could be wrong, but that's how it seems. If it works for you then great, but for me not so much. I'll
wait until it's complete and then I'll buy it.
