Would This Device Replace Windows Media Center?

As someone who has enjoyed the nearly flawless experience of using Media Center in my Win7 Desktop but dreading the loss of it when I upgrade to Win10, does this mean I can recapture my love for Media Center by buying an Xbox even though I just don't
    play games?

Yes, I know there are a myriad of software programs and devices out there. But digital video is simply over my head. I love using Media Center and watching on my PC and there's just me and only watch in one place in the house. Is buying an Xbox my solution?
I realize DVR isn't available yet, but I can wait. This option continues the process Microsoft used with Windows Media Center updating as is specific for the machine I am using and that has always worked great.

I hate to buy something that 's main purpose isn't what I would use it for, but I just watch OTA and not much daily. Not familiar with Xbox, but if you guys can comment I'm listening. Wouldn't even know which one to buy.

    :)

Laptop can see Xbox but Xbox doesn't see laptop

I've been streaming media from my laptop to my xbox for awhile now but since i installed windows 8.1 my xbox can no longer see my my laptop. I went through the normal steps enabling media sharing through windows media player and through the devices page.
I had done this before when i first got windows 8 and everything worked fine. If anyone could help with this that would be awesome

If you're looking to stream recordings and such through Windows Media Center then I wouldn't hold your breath. The writing is on the wall and MS seems to be doing all they can to try and kill off the software. So far it looks like the 360 is by far the superior
media device and always will be if MS doesn't get their act together and create something to replace Media Center.

You will need the Xbox one and also the OTA adaptor. I am using it currently and it works pretty good. As far as the one to purchase the best deal I've seen is the 500 gb bundle w/ the Kinect for 350 at Nebraska Furniture. I would also recommend picking
up the MS remote as well.

Thank you for your input Arsnik79. I guess I'm most interested in knowing if anyone who has used both Windows Media Center and this One interface to help determine if MS is simply moving the W7/8 software to the Xbox and "freshening it up" a bit. As I
mentioned, I would use it for the TV/DVR abilities alone and hook it up via HDMI to my TV. Kind of the equivalent of buying a huge box only for the TV properties. Or rather, buying this instead of a Tivo which is too heavily connected to a subscription service
to fulfill my needs. I simply watch OTA broadcasts and then delete them.

My timing for posting interaction wasn't too thought out as most people are quite busy this time of the year. So I do appreciate your comments and hope this question might get a bit more action after the Holidays.

Sorry, yes that was implied the Xbox One is the replacement for MC. There have been a few discussions after they announced they would discontinue MC and move that function to the Xbox. With that said to get the OTA channels you will also need an OTA adaptor.

Thanks again, Arknik79. The adapter you mentioned is what initiated my curiosity regarding the Xbox One when I read about it being at a great price. Appreciate the link.
