Would I be able to use an Xbox One with NO internet connection?

My 360 is on its last leg, and I don't want to buy another 360 if I could upgrade to the Xbox One. That being said, I'm not sure if i can even play an xbox one. I heard it requires a day one patch to even be used, and due to where i live, my internet has
a bandwidth limit. I'm wondering the required patches and what not are available through a disc or some non online download.

TL;DR: can I play an xbox One with absolutely NO connection to the internet?

Xbox Live Refuses to Connect

I bought an xbox 360 for kid to play. I would like to be able to update the 360 and use it for netflix for his room. I've tried everything with the help forums, tried factory restore, connected to the internet at friends house that plays xbox one, and tried
it with an ethernet cable. It connects to the internet but not live. I have no idea what else to do. Any help would be great.

 

Xbox One - Internet Sharing Connection (Windows 10)

Hi All,

I currently use BT OpenZone for my internet, and have to use their communal BT WiFi With FON connections.

I have always been able to use my Windows 10 Laptop to setup an internet sharing connection with my Xbox 360 and it would work. However, with my xbox one it is not the same.

Can anyone suggest how I can use connect my Xbox One to the internet using my Windows 10 laptop?

No. It must be connected to the internet for both setup, and downloading updates so it's not just a brick out of the box. After this one connection, you can play offline forever.

 

There are some games that require internet such as Destiny so be sure to double check any games before you buy if you plan on keeping it offline after the initial setup.

 

I have updated my xbox one and games and still cant play offline. Always asks me to select my profile to play but cant select a profile offline. Getting ridiculous, called xbox support and they had no answers. I have no internet where I live and now have
a $450 paper weight

 

TBH.. gaming on consoles is all about being online now. No reason why you should buy a console that needs an solid fast internet connection to be what it is. Sure you can play it offline. but why do that to yourself... the X1 needs an internet to reach its
max fun factor (FACT) . so many things it can do will be non existent or gimped by the lack of a good connection.

As for the trade it for digital...

It was initially in place to sell or trade digital games, but people cried about needing to be online... (and doing that complaining while online I might add)

Your best bet is to stay with the 350 for now... or upgrade to a better ISP

 

Player, I'm a new xbox one owner, also on a limited internet connection, the intital update for me was around 500mb. after that i was able to play sunset overdrive without an internet connection. There are games that require an internet connection to play
such as destiny.

@badbax23 what i've learned you have to go into your network settings and select "go offline" or everytime you launch a game it will ask you to log into your xbox live account. kinda annoying but i haven't had trouble with it.

 

@tohellnbak that is the only thing i dislike about the current generation and the future generations of gaming. I am a gamer, i play just about every game that comes out good or bad. I live somewhere that satellite internet is the best thing i can get, i'm
sure all the features that require an internet connection is fantastic on xbox one and it makes it "fun". BUT..... the extensive internet requirements on the xbox one is a downfall for someone like me who wants to be able to put in a game disc, install it
and play it without the hassle of having to turn off the game system's internet connection or unplug the ethernet cable!

But i have no complaints about my xbox one, i stay with my girlfriend which has 50mbps internet most of the time so its not a real big issue for me!!

 

I'm pretty sure the consoles that are in store now already have that day one update installed.

I've played offline a couple times with mine last week when then servers were down.

Some of my cloud saves didnt want to load though, but if you never go online that shouldnt be a problem.

 

You can update your Xbox One offline as long as you have access to a PC with internet connection and USB key that can be used to transport the update file to your Xbox One

To use your Xbox without an Internet connection you will have to put it into "Offline" mode otherwise it will try to log you into Live and complain about no internet connection. You can do this in the Network settings on your Xbox One.

 

Wow, that's cool; even I didn't know that was available! Still, it seems awfully complicated. I'd rather just keep my console online so it does it automatically. It's so much simpler that way.

 

I wouldnt bother updating with no internet. Most games come out broken and unfinished and need patches to actually work correctly.

You wont get these without the internet.
