Would a gamertag change cause in game problems?

I changed my gamertag recently, and it was about the time Destiny patched. Since the change and patch I've been unable to join friends games or parties without some sort of disconnect. Either I drop the game, or my friends begin experiencing errors. Party
chats don't work as well. Friends cannot see that I am online or send invites. Any invites I do receive don't show up on the console.

i have an open NAT and my down/upload speeds are fine as well as 0% packet loss.

i know Xbox live is having social issues at the moment, but I feel like somehow my gamertag change is making things worse.

My account was banned due to spiteful opponents

I would like to speak with the Xbox ambassador about my forced gamer tag change My gamertag was [Mod Removed] now its And during a game of NBA 2K it was changed my opponents report me because they’re losing and they got my gamertag changed
There is another gamertag called [Mod Removed] and has 45 gamerscore it hasn’t been Forced to change its gamertag I know my gamer tag is not profane cause I was able to create it proofing my gamer tag was only forced to change because of spiteful gamers I was
beating in 2K reporting me for my gamertag I would like my gamer tag change back

Recycling a gamertag...

I'm wondering if you guys could recycle gamertag 'Lives' or look into it cause I would like to change my gamertag to it and he appears to be inactive. I've tried messaging Lives and getting no response about negociating a gamertag change.. So if you could
please look into that gamertag to see if hes inactive to the gamertag could be up for grabs.

Usually a gamertag change does not cause any problems like your described. I think it's more related to the current problem with the xbl network.

Hi, I am currently facing the same problem, as I didn't know it would be caused just by changing the randomly generated gamertag.

I know this thread is kinda old, but may I ask if you did get to change back your gamertag, or I will also need to start Dark Souls again ?

Also just to add! Most of the good Gamertags that you may see have been paid for or used their one free change. Microsoft would need to refund people if they took their gamertag away too! At that point that would cause a extreme problems as well legal problems.
Since Microsoft does not give re-funds back for Gamertags. I hope you have a great day!

You would have to change the gamertag on the current account to something different to free up that gamertag.

Then you would need to change the gamertag on the childs account to the freed up gamertag.

Keep in mind that all this will do is change the gamertag.

If he has used that account and gamertag for games the game progress will not go over with the gamertag.

Any purchases for games or game add ons will not be transferred over.

There is a charge for changing the gamertag also if you chose that gamertag at the time of the account being opened.

The charge would be 9.99 USD
