Worried my console is dying.

I didn't post in support because I want to get as many opinions as possible.

I've been getting a bit of stuttering during gameplay lately. It's been like this the last 3 games I've played so I don't know if it's the games or my hardware.

Magic 2015, there is a bit of stuttering when 2 creatures are attacking each other when the cards are going to the graveyard or just after I've won a match, it will stutter for a moment.

Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments: It runs fine, but when you use the carriage to go from one place to another, there is some stuttering during these cut-scenes,but they are extremely brief. Sort of like a skip.

Alien Isolation had some bad stuttering during gameplay and it was pretty frequent.

Has this happened to anyone else on any of these 3 games?

New Console choice - Help

Yeah I kinda wanted the Gears of War 360 console but was a little worried about it dying so I passed. Maybe if some other cool limited edition is release ill look into it.

 

Anyone else still use a launch day 360? One that uses a Xenon?

All you can do is take care of it. I had an original console without issue as well for about 8 years before I took advantage of a trade in deal at my local game retailer. They offered $100 off for any console. Too good of a deal to pass up in my opinion.

If you're worried about the console dying on you then perhaps you could look out for something like that.

 

i had a lot of frame rate issues in Alien Isolation, caused my death a few times, and when i hit one of those times where it automatically recorded a clip, it caught one of those stutters where everything just froze for a second.

 

the first thing I would try is pulling the power. I don't think the console ever really shuts down. It also reminds me of an android phone OS where apps still run in the background until you force it to quit.

 

I think I'll try a few older games that I know were ok to see if it happens. I'll try Forza 5.

 

It's probably more persistent if you use the "instant on" setting as it uses more memory resources to keep everything running. I found this really anoying when my home screen would just freeze up for 5-8 seconds with no response until I started using my
normal power off setting again.

 

I'm not sure if I have instant mode turned on as I always unplug it when I'm finished. I'll check that too. I'm sort of hoping this happens to others as well.

 

Yeah, I don't trust instant on. I don't need my Xbox on 'sleep' mode all the time and while it's nice to say Xbox on, I can just turn it on with my controller. I unplug the power supply cord when I'm not using my Xbox.

I haven't had any stuttering in my games except for one checkpoint in AW where it was stuttering for 2 seconds or so.

 

It also happens after just alot of gaming, apps use, etc without a formal hard reset. It's the same way with most computers and smart phones today. They have fancy features and apps that eat up so much resources and some never really quit when you tell the
mtoo that it just requires a hard reset to fix. If it were to continue after doing a hard reset, then I would check on that warranty soon.

 

^^ For sure, the apps definitely drain the resources/battery. I don't know if it's my OCD or whatever, but I immediately close whatever app I was on if I'm not using it anymore. If I'm gaming, I'm gaming and don't need the friends, achievements, settings
still open in the background. I just quit them.

Alien stuttered a lot for me at certain places, other than that my console is in insta on mode and I don't have any issues as described above, but imdont use a lot of apps.

 

I do the same thing as well. I don't think it's an OCD thing as much as it is resourceful thinking. To me it's more of a detriment than a feature.

 

Well it's still doing it on Magic 2015. I've read that there are issues like that on the ONE version.

I watched a Twitch feed with someone playing Sherlock Holmes on the PS4 and it did the same as mine on the same parts.

I hear Alien can also do this, though it doesn't happen to everyone.

Finally, I played Forza 5 and Killer Instinct and there was 0 frame rate issues with either game. I feel better knowing it's not my console. Instant mode was turned on so I disabled it.
