The monthly fee is kind of a dumb idea for a console. We are already paying for Xbox live and I don't understand why they would require a monthly fee to play. This game should be loaded on the Xbox servers that I believe Microsoft lends out for free to these
development companies. The game should be $60 and free to play like any other game and have expansion packs like other games that you can buy to keep playing. Just because its a mmo game does not mean it should be required to charge monthly.
Microsoft gets the money from our Live subscriptions and a MMO isn't going to be run on their servers. The monthly fee pays for the servers, content patches, employees and the GM's that ( in theory ) keep the game running smoothly.

This is the problem with taking a MMO to the console, console gamers are looking at this as a "normal" game which it's not.

The developers were warned after the E3 announcement that it was coming to consoles not to do it but they didn't listen. If they had made a proper MMO for the PC this game would be much more successful.

Most console gamers have never played a MMO or if they have it's been a recent F2P. MMO's aren't about story, it's about hitting max level and running raids and dungeons to gear up for more raids and dungeons. The monthly fee is paying for updates that add
new dungeons and gear to keep you grinding after you have obtained all you old gear.

I've spent more hours end game raiding in EQ, EQ2 and WoW than I care to admit and love my MMO's but when I saw this was going to the console I lost all interest. If the end game can be played with a controller then the mechanics will have been "dummied down"
to the point it wouldn't be worth my time.
Actually I sat playing it, thinking I would prefer using an xbox controller to play it, and if I did decide to get it, I would buy one for this alone, and use it in conjuction with the keyboard, not sure how they will put that many controls into
a controller there are way to many for a controller alone.

Also if you put a story mode in then, it should have some relevance, and people should care (for want of a better word), if the story isn't important, and TBH if they had skipped the story and built it more around raiding, and dungeons from the start I think
I would have enjoyed it more, and certainly played it differently, with a different mind set.

You are not allowed to discuss the subscription fee on Bethesda's official forums.

They want to wait until the company has official confirmed the costs.

That being said there is talk of a discounted sub if you commit to a longer time frame, a bit like a Season Pass I suppose.

5. Anyone but me remember the days when you payed exorbitant sums for something you would consider today as free to play? I was young then but had nerd neighbors who had money to waste.

I'm probably showing my age here but I can remember a time when you paid for a product and got all the content with the original and enjoyed it.

7. I mean the dark age for online gaming. Where you paid per minute to use a product and internet gaming. It was around the advent of the internets golden age and truly horrible.

Woohoo! Elder Scrolls online!!

I remember playing text based RPGs over BBS on 14kb dialup before the Internet was invented. And FidoNet was the newsgroup way of community communication. LOL

Anyway, having played just about every MMORPG out there, including all the subscription based ones. This is nothing new to me and I certainly am willing to give a little back to help maintain game content, updates and servers. I also play Guild Wars 2 on
my MAC, free yes. But that's just the way it is. Some are, some are not. I would rather pay and have the game a better chance of surviving long term.

9. Good point Whagi.. Still when it gets to the point that people can pay actual money for a item that is when it get to the point of revolt (IE: Runescape). Hopfully ESO will not get into that field.

I really love the elder scrolls games, I have for a very long time. Which is why I have no interest in the elder scrolls online. What makes the elder scrolls exceptional, what gives it its own flavor, is its focus on the single player immersion. Taking WOW
mechanics and setting them in the elder scrolls universe really holds no interest for me.

11. Whoa there. I, and hopfully a good many others, consider ESO to be somewhat seperate entirely from The Elder Scrolls era. It is set 800 years earlier and will have different mechanics. That being said, ill wait and see before buying. Preordering this one
is a bit sketchy in my opinion.

Just being able to walk, talk and do quests with other characters/people within the Elder Scrolls is a day one purchase for me. As long as the have a good balance of Solo and Party quests and main character development quests right it should be good.

At least with WoW the base game is only 40 dollars in addition to the sub. 60 plus sub is a bit ridiculous

I see what people are saying about the feel but i thought it wouldn't feel or look like skyrim or any other elder scroll purely on the basis todd howard and co aren't working on it, didnt the marketing guy for bethesda say in a interview he's stayed well
away from the online installment and worked on something else and bethesda daren't argue with him.

I say its more based on elder scrolls, themed with heavy lore etc but alot of the design is a bit more online friendly in its toned down, once i actually had a look properly at the area the npcs etc then it did start to feel elder scrollsy, i can see it
being good value and i can't base my content thoughts on the beta as it was a laggy time with so many people on stressing it, i am hoping theres a free trial or something on the pc so i can have a few weeks on it or days and see what they improved based on
this beta, i am just hesistent to pay so much at the mo but alas a beta is just a beta not a demo lol

@murder it wasn't always all expansions and original game was 60 when it first came out. The last expansion was the first one to only be 40 instead of 60. I've played wow since it launched.
