Won't connect to to live or update error STATUS CODE: 417F-0000-3080-050C-8007-0070

It seems there are a lot of similar posts about this topic with similar error codes, but the "solution" posted isn't working.

First off, my Xbox has worked JUST FINE for almost 2 years now. It's a measly 2GB version but I hardly use it.

I began noticing the problem when it stopped playing DVDs.

I got a message to do a system update, but it wouldn't download, having problems connecting to Live (STATUS CODE: 417F-0000-3080-050B-8007-0070).

At one point I got a red dot (NOT RROD) on the power button and error code 37 (or possibly 74, having problems remembering), suggesting I need to send it in for repair. It also was not recognizing the internal memory, or the USB memory attached.

Of course, it's almost 2 years old, so Microsoft wants to *** me with a $99 repair fee. Sorry guys, but this thing is barely even used with less than 20 hours of play. Charging me is unacceptable.

Anyway, I began trying the work-arounds. I burned the new update onto a DVD, and as instructed, put the DVD in the slot and repowered the unit. The update is supposed to start automatically from the DVD but the tray just says "mixed media disk" on it.

I then did the exact same thing to a USB drive. Still didn't work.

I even disconnected it completely from the internet hoping that would trick the Xbox into loading either the disk or the USB. Nothing.

There is nothing wrong with my internet settings. I've had multiple devices connected to my network with no problems, and no, I am not using too many devices.

So, I still have this cyclical issue of not being able to connect to Live unless I install the update, but I can't get INTO Live to DOWNLAD the update, and the disk and USB work arounds do not work.

There HAS to be a simple workaround here.

Any suggestions?

 

The amount of time played on a console has nothing to do with whether it needs to be repaired. Sorry to say that.

However, if you don't want to send the console in for a repair you have a couple of choices.

1. You can either get an official Xbox hard drive and use it to update your console

2. Purchase a new console to use

Sorry but if you got a red light or the E74 error code it suggests a hardware issue that needs to be repaired and this could be what is causing the update issue.

I am also having the same issues, except I was able to fix the red light because it was my cable connections. My sin was playing the Xbox one day just fine, logged into LIVE and everything and it told him there was an update. He went to download it and I've
had nothing but issues since. I read forums for the last two days and still can't find anything solid to fix my system other than wanting me to mess with router settings. Any possibility that certain releases of Xbox are having troubles with the update and
there could be a fix for us?

Glad you were able to fix your red light error! Sorry you're still having other problems though.

Since your problems could be different from BilledPit1's, it would probably be best if you created a new thread here on the forums so we could get you support tailored to your specific issue.

Remember to describe all the issues you're having and include any error codes you're experiencing as well as any troubleshooting steps you've already tried!
