    Won't connect to 5GHz band

My Xbox will connect to the 2.4GHz band, but not the 5GHz band. I can't figure this out myself and the clueless idiots at Microsoft Support said that the Xbox One doesn't use 5GHz Wi-Fi.

Xbox slim wireless to ASUS RT-N66U works very poor.

My Xbox One won't connect to the 5GHz band of my Asus N66U wireless router.

Can't connect to 5GHz band of Asus N66U wireless router.

As my title says my Xbox One won't connect to the 5GHz band of my Asus N66U wireless router. It connects to the 2.4GHz band fine, but I want to use the 5GHz because it's much faster. My modem is an **** TM822. In my router settings both bands are check as
"optimized for Xbox". I also forwarded the correct ports for the Xbox, but it still doesn't work. I tried chatting to Microsoft support, but the guy literally stopped chatting to me after he asked me a couple simple questions.

    Won't connect to 5GHz band

Many folks with Asus dual-band routers are having the same problem, including myself. I was able to get it to connect on 5ghz on the initial OS version after a few tries but not at all on the latest few OS versions. I am hoping MS can fix this in a future
update, but the longer this goes on the more I doubt it.

So it's a software bug on Microsoft's side. I want to use 5GHz because it's much faster and there's much less devices on that band in my house.

Me too, and I hope it is only a software issue... Regardless, I'm not sure it is high on MS's list to fix.

After chatting with two clueless people through Microsoft chat I decided to give them a call. I was connected to a nice young American man and he helped me resolve this problem within minutes. To my surprise the problem was that the wireless router was physically
too close to the Xbox One and it was causing feedback. When I moved it at least three feet away it was able to connect to the 5GHz band!

    Won't connect to 5GHz band

Mine is in a different room but still well within range, so that's not it for me and likely others I've seen with 5ghz troubles. Hope it continues working for you, but I bet you'll find it disconnected one day and have problems connecting again.

  9. Hi all,

Yes I'm having same, router can't detect the XboxOne on the 5ghz, I wouldn't mind but I've

renewed my contract with my ISP for the dual band.

So for me this should be a priority fix. Please.

    Regards.

I guess the issue is with your HUB, as my hub was changed and now have had no issues connecting onto the 5ghz.

I'm using BT Home Hub 5 Type A, and all things are running fine wired and wireless now.

So I do not believe it is a software issue, if it is, then the issue must of been resolved or will be resolved in the July update.

My personal advise is change your hub if you can. Sorry I could do more for you tech wise.

    Regards

Randomly disconnecting from Xbox Live on Xbox One (wireless only).

    Probably wifi interference.

If you have a dual band router then try connecting to the 5Ghz band.

I've found that 5Ghz gives me a far more reliable connection as well as full line speed of 75meg

Unable to consitently turn on Xbox One X remotely

My router does broadcast both the 2.4 and 5Ghz bands. When I tried wireless I connected it to the 5Ghz band. I have tried both plugging directly to the wall, and to a power strip/surge protector.
Thanks for that info. To check, both your console and your mobile were connected to the same 5GHz band when you tried this? Also, do you have any kind of MAC filtering or AP isolation enabled on your router?

Yes - both my mobile and Xbox One X were connected to the 5Ghz band at the same time. I do not have any sort of MAC filtering or IP isolation setup on my router. Thanks.

xbox 360 slim 4gb network specs

The xbox 360 slim's built in wireless network adaptor DOES NOT support the 5ghz band. The "N" protocol is available in both the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz radio band. However the slims internal wireless nic is not capable of operating on the 5ghz band.
