    Without the PR speak, why is the Xbox Gamepass for PC app one of the buggiest storefronts...


    I really want to empathize with the developers here because I don't have any experience with software development nor most all the other skills required to support something like Gamepass for PC.

    But jeez, it's really really bad.

    ..and it has been ever since the beta. I am continually and sincerely astounded at how much of a mess it is. Every time I launch it, the app is an utter roulette wheel of obtuse, unintuitively solvable bugs. This is not unique to me or my system. Nor is it unique to Microsoft, I mean, my fists still shake a bit with cortisol whenever I think of Games For Windows Live. This is a universally, wildly discussed issue. What is going on here? Like, I actually want a personal anecdote of the difficulties it is taking to sort this out, because my frustration would be at least a little deflated seeing some humanity behind this issue.

    If someone said, "Hey dude, I'm a software engineer on Gamepass for PC. Yeah, trust me, we hear you loud and clear, but like it's really important for us to get the DRM stuff right so our licensees do business with us, so much so that it's had to take a precedent over UI/UX stuff." Or "Yeah, we're trying to be the loss-leader on game streaming with an amazing sounding service, but the publishers get paid per-game-launched so we're trying to make the experience as difficult to use without causing people to unsubscribe, sorry."

    I just simply cannot wrap my head around how Microsoft can develop Windows as well as all the Xbox infrastructure, but still have an inexcusably unusable app. Also, it is wildly obnoxious that it does not recognize directinput, or for that matter why Windows even has two competing controller APIs.

    Why is there an xbox companion app and an xbox app for PC? Just put all the features in one app.

    Two different things one companion app is a front end to your xbox for remote play

    Xbox app is storefront for pc and remote play and cloud play

    even though the pc gamepass has access to ea play, none of them games support acheivements for xbox live.

    it is not fully integrated like it is on steam hence why you need ea desktop app to play.

    this is one of the reaons i ditched gamepass pc and paid 20 for a full year access through steam.

    That's because it's not available on xbox app for pc

    It's only available for EA play pro or ea play for pc or steam or epic NOT xbox games for Windows 10

    EA dual entitlement is only available on consoles of the same storefront not pc

    The Xbox app is only required to install the game, once installed you just need to open the game from the shortcut
