with the laptop I can see live TV from the local TV station. can't get it on the Xbox 1

Hey there, can you run me through your Xbox setup, please!

if you do local and 1 player has live and the other tv does not can they connect via opposite tvs

I can't answer the UK Freeview bit, here is what I know about the Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner for Xbox:

• It can be used to view compatible OTA TV stations,
• The OneGuide app can be used to view the Digital TV Tuner stations,
• IIRC there is a pause live TV function however it may be restricted to a maximum of 30 minutes,
• Microsoft was working on an update to enable longer PVR functionality but that was put on hold some months ago, I don't know if they plan to restart that.
  

That last point disappointed me when it was announced as I specifically bought the Hauppauge Digital TV Tuner for Xbox when I read that they were working on the PVR feature.

The pause live TV function is nice though if you just need a short bathroom break.

Sorry for the delay in replying, had the grandkids for the weekend, not 100% sure what you was referring to but the tv does access the internet via wifi, as does the laptop, the xbox is connected via ethernet cat6 or cat7 can't remember, they can all access
the internet independently and while the tv is turned on and being used I can stream my xbox to my laptop, but if the tv is turned off or goes into standby, I get a network quality warning on the laptop and a message saying iv been disconnected from the xbox,
my hdmi cable from the xbox to the tv has built in ethernet "I think" but that shouldn't stop the xbox streaming to my laptop via wifi or am I missing something.

I wouldn't say harsh, it made sense. I get what you were saying and mostly agreed with it. Tv in general can't be an assume baby sitter either. Supervision is obviously key just as well with tv. Can't blame the station for putting on a tv show that doesn't
fit the viewer at the time. Just as much as you can't blame Microsoft when things on live go pear shaped.
