Witcher 3 - Won't Launch, kicks to dashboard

Hi,

Bought the game on Tuesday. Installed it, pressed to play. Initially, it immediately kicks me back to the dashboard, with only some controller input delay. Press it a second time, and manage to get the initial splash screen of Geralt, then a black screen,
and then kicked back to dashboard. Massive input delay/crashing e.t.c.

When I've managed to press play for the third time, I get this weird bug where the splash screen becomes part of my dashboard, with it being the central screen...

I've tried hard reboot, reinstalling/installing the game, unplugging the console and even replacing the disk. Still the same problems. Any ideas? It's torturous having the game in front of me and not being able to play it.

Anyone else having problems getting the game to start playing??

I've made a separate thread about this, but I thought I'd post here as well; mine will install, but when I go to launch it, it kicks me straight back to the dashboard. Have to hard reboot my xbox just to do anything else.

Tried everything to fix it; reinstall, hard reboot, clear cache, replaced disk, e.t.c. Nothing. All other games work. Been waiting months for the Witcher 3, haven't played even a second of it..

 

Xbox One will not be supported in all countries, Japan one of them

Witcher 3 isn't even out until "sometime" in 2014. This list is LAUNCH countries (November). Who's saying Poland won't be supported by the time Witcher 3 actually releases? People are using that example and forgetting when Witcher 3 is even out, as in, noone
knows when it is out except for a vague statement of "sometime" next year. Perhaps Poland will also be supported on LIVE "sometime" next year. Just saying..

 

I'll add some extra detail: I'm due an update, but all of my other games work. It's a bit strange that it's only the Witcher 3 that doesn't. Still, I'm doubting whether it was a good idea putting a pre-order on the Arkham Knight Collector's Edition, if it's
only going to do the same thing.

 

Hey there, Dr Quinzell! I'm very sorry to see any issues with launching Witcher 3! What you're seeing is definitely not something that should happen, so let's see if we can get this sorted out.

Normally, when I see these kinds of things, it's because the game is installed on an external drive. Is this the case for you? If so, I suggest installing the game on your internal drive and give it a try then.

If you are already on the internal hard drive, or you've already tried that, the next thing I can think of is that you might be set to
Instant On. If you are, I suggest switching it over to Energy-saving mode and giving that a shot.

If you've already got it installed on your internal drive AND you're in Energy-saving mode, I'd like you to try an uninstall with these specific steps (in this order):

• Uninstall the game.
  
• Remove your profile.
  
• Power cycle the console by holding the power button for 8 seconds.
  
• After you have booted the console back up,
  add your profile back on and
  install the game again.

That covers everything related to the purchase that could be affecting this. After all of that, if it's still not working, my first suggestion is to try it on another console. This will help pinpoint if it's the console causing this. If you are unable to
do that, the next best thing you could try to rule out the console is to
reset it to factory defaults.

If it is still crashing back to the home screen after that, and it's the only game that is, please post back so that we can look into it further.

If there are other games that are crashing after all of this, I suggest getting your console repaired through our
Online Service Center.

Please post back with your results! We'll be able to look into items further once troubleshooting has been completed.

 

I'll answer the questions I can answer now, and get back to you with the ones I can't. It's on the internal hard-drive, and my xbox is set to energy-saving mode (I saw how some problems were associated beforehand with the instant-on mode). So looks like
I'll be trying the uninstall/remove profile option. Do you think the fact the system needs an update would be contributing to the problem?

New development: minor bug regarding Witcher 3 tile on dashboard. No matter what game I play, Dark Souls 2 is in the central tile location. Seems the Witcher 3 tile is topping Dark Souls from effectively moving down the queue.

 

The Dark Souls 2 thing might be related to something else.

Yes, the system update is required in order to run disc based games. Additionally, if your console is not connected to the internet, The Witcher 3 might need an online update before it can launch fully. I suggest

updating your console and then giving it a shot then. It might also resolve the issue with the Dark Souls 2 tile not moving.

Let us know if that works for you! If not, we'll definitely dig a bit deeper.

 

The game developer's website forums are full of people having problems with Witcher 3 across all platforms - it seems to make no difference if you have a disc or have downloaded the game - there are some major issues with it. But by far the strangest thing
is that some people on x1 are having a perfect experience, whilst others are having a very bad one (me included) - if we all have the same x1 hardware, and the safe game software, why is there such a problem for a lot of people? The developer's seem to be
concentrating their support on the PC version problems - with the console versions taking a back seat for now. This really is a bad situation - we've come to expect a few minor niggles in games and having to wait for patches, but if you read the dev's forums
you will see there are many many serious issues including game crashes and being unable to play. How did this thing ever get released when there are so many issues for so many people . . . very poor!

 

Update! I am very pleased to say that the game is up and running. Seems that the update did the trick. Thanks for the help

 

I am having the exact same problem. I have tried everything and my Xbox one is up to date OS wise. Is there anything else that can be done? This is my second copy of the game so it can't just be a bad disc.

 

Why in the world do you guys keep posting the same thing? They get it. It is as if none of you have a clue of the sophistication of the process, let alone that it is not always apparent what is causing the issue. Once they figure out what is causing the
issue, the resolution has to be found. That first resolution can cause other issues. Now I'm quite sure that all of you instant gratification, spoiled brats have other games to play on your Xbox one, so stop with your whining, go play them. Keep in mind that
there are plenty working on the issue that are now on overtime to get it working, have a little compassion and understanding. Do you think any of those on overtime are happy the game is not working?

Enough said have fun playing another game for now.

 

Woah, woah, woah - seriously? Firstly, please don't label me as a "spoiled brat", when you don't know anything about my life. I certainly don't warrant that stereotypical, scorning judgement.

Secondly, it's perfectly within my right to create a thread stating that I can't play a game that I paid for; I wasn't angry, I haven't been posting "Xbone sucks, I'm selling it and getting a PS4". I came here for ideas. I understand that the system is
complex, with tiny alterations causing one person to have a problem loading the game and another to play it perfectly. As mentioned before, you don't know me, I work in IT - I perfectly understand the work that goes into these things. I've worked overtime
getting systems to work.

What's wrong with people wanting to play a game that they've been excited to play? That's what we're all here for.
