  3. I filled up the 500 cb on the Xbox , but just recently added an external hard drive. Now I have 3tb of space.

I really don't get this. People actually want to have to take something apart and then have Data stuck on that HDD rather then simply plug in a new one. Whatever man, whatever...

  5. They were never a one time use. That rumour came about because of poor wording in the instructions.

Yes it was a one time transfer because the data was removed from the original drive and moved to the new. You could pass the cable on as many times as you liked.

Though it is true they charged for them in the end, though £15 was hardly a premium fee.

Of course people would like the option to upgrade the internal drive. That doesn't mean they don't want the option for externals too.

External is the best option, what if your console break and you have to send it in, when you get the inevitable refurb back you can plug the drive in and play, and not have to spend hours downloading everything again.

  7. Or you take out the internal drive before you send it in for repair. Then pop it back into the returned console.

This isn't an either/or scenario. There's really no reason we couldn't have had a user replaceable internal and external storage.

Transfer cables. Yeah, I had a couple of those... one for the 360, then had to get another one for the 360S... what a PITA those things were. I might still have them lying around here somewhere. Not that they're good for anything anymore.

I love my new transfer cable though. Can plug it in and leave it plugged in, don't have to mess around removing anything from the console and can move info to and from the attached drive all day if I want. Another really cool thing about it is the fact that
I was playing 1 game (Destiny) while I moved another (TMCC) from the internal to the external. It doesn't have any big, bulky ends on it and I didn't need any special instructions that could be poorly worded just to use it. I understand why Microsoft went with the external option rather than allowing us to replace the internal but I agree with Vaynel we should have had both options.

The vast majority of console users have never replaced a GPU, CPU or HD in a PC so the thought of taking apart a console that you spent 350 to 500 bucks on can be daunting but there are enough of us that would be comfortable with doing it that it should
    have been an option.

For some people the external is a better option ( mobility, etc) but for people like me the best option is to let me throw a larger HD in the console and never have to worry about it again. A 2TB HD would last me the lifetime of the console. I have a 300mb
internet connection so re-downloading games isn't a big deal and I can't see every needing more than 2 TB for the games/apps I'm currently using.

    Wow I agree with randver!

I love my external drives and do think it was the best option given a choice of the two, but both would have been the best option. In 5 years time I see having an internal ssd being viable instead of several externals. For now tho a 2tb external is faster,
as OS and game can load at same time.

When I said one time use of the transfer cable I wasn't suggesting it never worked for someone else who may have needed it. I went from my original 20gb 360 to a 360s late in the gens life and had to buy the cable for about $40 AUD. Most people I know already
had bigger HDD 360's so I had no one to pass it on to. ( one time use) for me.

If only Microsoft could invent something to move data from one hard drive to another.

Something like, oh I don't know, a transfer cable.

Your right, a cat or dog could pull the plug out of the hard drive (highly unlikely though)

The situation I'm about to tell you though is very likely.

A person (let's call him Bob) buys an Xbox One, after six months he decides he needs more space. So Bob goes out and buys a bigger hard drive, takes the old one out, and puts that shiny new hard drive. And then realises he now has to redownload and install
    everything he had.

Bob, so enraged by this comes onto the forums and says "why can't we plug in an external hard drive and just copy the data over?"

If you think that would never happen, take a look on our rivals forum from time to time, that sort of post is quite common. Because when the PS4 owner upgrades their hard drive, they have to redownload or reinstall everything.

Thanks for that Sigma, that's me 'owned'.

I've never seen an external with two hard drives in it before.

You learn something new every day and long may that be so.
