Wireless xbox one controllers not connecting

My dad called me down this morning telling me that the controllers weren't working. He said that he updated one controller (we have 2) and then the Xbox froze and he had to press the power button. Now when we try to wirelessly connect the Xbox one light
won't flash but the controllers will. Plugging the controllers in won't even get them to navigate the home screen. I hope someone can help because this is a bit of a weird problem

Wireless controllers not connecting

I had an Xbox 360 that I purchased three years ago. It finally went three red lights on me a few months back so I purchased the new model with kinect etc. But try as I might the three controllers from my old machine will not connect to the new machine.
Why or what do I need to do? I've tried everything in the FAQ but nothing works.

Sounds like you might need to re update the controllers, but take a look at this guide to see if it solves the problem.

If this controller was previously connected to the console but is no longer able to connect, you should repeat the connection process using the console’s connect button.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. That is a great question. The console allows up to eight wireless controllers to connect to the console. The article entitled, "Connect
a wireless Xbox One controller to your console" contains information about the Xbox One controllers. The article states, "You can connect up to eight wireless controllers to a console." We hope this helps!

"am I being stupid".... No, everyone has trouble from time to time. But, let me suggest following up with a couple of things, "Connect a wireless
Xbox One controller to your console" and "Xbox One Wireless Controller disconnects or can't connect" . Let us know if you continue to have
issues connecting the controller to your Xbox.
