Wireless Xbox one adapter compatibility with windows 7

I recently bought the wireless adapter for windows 10 for my windows 7 pc because I read that it's been expanded to support it. I already bought the xbox one controller before and it's working fine but I want to play wireless that's why I bought this adapter.
However, when I plug it in it is listed as an unknown device and it doesn't interact with my controller. What shall I do? Are there any drivers I need to get, and if so, how? Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about the issues being experienced. I would suggest to take a look at our

guide for fixing connection issues with the controller and the PC. At the bottom you can find steps if you have Windows 7.

The controller will need to be connected using a USB cable if you have Windows 7 I believe.

To connect wireless you need the
Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows.

There are two different Xbox One wireless adapters.
The older, bigger one is able to support Windows 7, 8, and 10.
The newer, smaller one only supports Windows 10.

Thanks for your answer, would like it to wireless but I can handle it

Does all xbox one controller have an usb C port to be connected or some are wireless only ? (Sorry about all these questions but never had an xbox one controller between my hand)

And I found 2 link on microsoft website about wireless connexion here they are, but in french (i'm on phone can't find them in English) but here's the translation of interesting parts :

That's where I heard about the "old adaptator"

And I just found this link :

This is line 1, 2 and 3 of the table :

So seems like there is 2 wireless adaptator and one of them seems to work on windows 7 but they don't precise if it's for xbow one or 360...sigh now you understand why i'm so lost, 3 versions of the controller, 2 different adaptator, many software update...I
know the best is to switch to W10 but I never had a single problem on w7 and would like to keep it as long as possible.

sorry to hear but I think you bought the false Xbox Wireless Adapter. Please read this

So bring it back to the store and try to catch the old Adapter or because of windows 7 (Windows 7
Support End 14. January 2020)
You maybe better upgrade to Windows 10 or I have heard there are some APPS outside - translating the controller to steam.
