Wireless Xbox 360 controller will no longer sync with PC

    Hey Guys,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have an HTPC on Windows 10 that I have been using to run games on with 2 wireless Xbox 360 controllers. Yesterday for some reason they both stopped working. When I start up the PC and then turn on my controllers they just blink with all a green circle. I
    have troubleshot this several ways:

    1. Tried both controllers
    2. Changed the batteries
    3. Uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers from
      here
    4. Tried various USB ports for the receiver and moved the receiver around in case it was some kind of interference.
    5. Tried to re-sync the controllers

(Press the connect button on my receiver, then press the connect button on the xbox controller. When I do this, for a few second (sometimes longer than others) the lights circle like they do when they are looking to connect. Then, instead of blink on of the
four lights it blinks all of them in the circle until the controller falls asleep. I'm not sure what that means. )
    6. Made sure I'm on the current version of Windows 10
    7. Tried in on my other Win10 PC (after downloading the drivers fresh).
At this point I am thinking about buying a new receiver (as I doubt both controllers went bad at the same time), but any help to understanding what else this might be would be very helpful.

    Thank you!

    :)

  2. Trouble with my Xbox 360 Wireless Controller on my PC

    Hi,

The Xbox 360 wireless controller won't work with the play and charge kit on it's own on a PC. The Controller always remains wireless, it can't be changed to a wired controller. To use a 360 wireless controller you'll need an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver.
Microsoft no longer make these, but it is possible to buy a third party receiver, although installing them can be troublesome.

The Play and charge can be used with the PC, but only to charge the controller. The driver is only designed to automatically sync the controller to the Gaming receiver.

Only the Xbox One controller can be turned into a wired controller with an Xbox One Play and Charge, or a standard USB to Micro USB cable.

  4. Wireless Xbox 360 controller will no longer sync with PC

I'm having the same problem. My wireless controller was working with my receiver yesterday, and today after installing the Windows 10 update, it no longer works. It's highly unlikely that this problem coinciding with what looks like a major Windows update
is coincidental. Either this is a bug, or Microsoft no longer supports (i.e. disabled) 360 controllers with Windows 10 and wants us to buy Xbox One controllers.

    I'm hoping it's a bug.

  5. Reinstalling the driver manually worked for me. Try this

    1. Download the driver from
      www.microsoft.com/.../jr9-00011
for your operating system (use Windows 7 download for Windows 10)
    2. Double click the .exe and walk through the installation wizard
    3. Try and connect the controller again
If this doesn't work, try this

    1. Open device manager (windows key + pause > side panel > device manager)
    2. Hopefully there's a category named 'Unknown Devices' or something. Unplug your wireless receiver and then plug it back in, this will tell you which unknown device it is in this list.
    3. Right click the device and 'Update Driver Software'
    4. Select 'Browse my computer for driver software'
    5. Select 'Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer'
    6. Hopefully there's one listed which is for Xbox 360 controllers
    7. Try and connect the controller again
    Hope this helps

Thanks for the feedback Funkiest. I had tried this and it didn't work for me. I was using a off-brand receiver. I think the update might have messed up the compatibility or something. I ordered an OEM receiver and got it today. Plugged it in and it worked
    just fine.

Removing connection between controller and Xbox One

Once you have synced the controller with the PC wireless adapter the console should no longer recognise it afterwards.
