Wireless Receiver 3.1 not recognized

Discus and support Wireless Receiver 3.1 not recognized in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; MS Support states the wireless receiver 3.1 (1028) will work with xbox 360 wireless controller.... Discussion in 'XBoX on Consoles' started by UniformArc6690, Oct 1, 2017.

  1. Wireless Receiver 3.1 not recognized

MS Support states the wireless receiver 3.1 (1028) will work with xbox 360 wireless controller. (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-hardware/microsoft-wireless-desktop-rec...).
I suspect MS is mistaken. I have more time into this than I care to admit (it's only a game after all). All my components are MS branded.

Nevertheless, the xbox controller app does not recognize the receiver on my PC (WIN7/64). Receiver is listed in device manager and function correctly for Mouse. Receiver came packaged with a mouse & keyboard but I no longer have keyboard. I suspect
a receiver, -specifically for xbox controller- is what is needed.

Has anyone ever witnessed MS Wireless Receiver 3.1 (1028) working with an xbox 360 controller? neil

    :)

  2. Xbox one controller not working for windows

I had an issue yesterday where my controller would not connect via wired or wireless adapter. I was able to fix my issue by ensuring that the wireless adapter was plugged into a USB 2.0 not USB 3.0/3.1 slot.

As for wired, the same thing helped.

Which USB port to plug the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 in for best performance

Hi Lance, I know what happened. I think there is a missing part on the manual. It did not mention that the user has to press the big xbox button to turn on the controller first before pressing the button at the back of the usb adapter. Then, the small button
at the front of the controller. Now pairing is fine.

One strange thing is that before I found this missing part, even I plugged the adapter into a usb 3.1 gen 2 port, Windows 10 could not recognize it. After I unplugged it and plugged the adapter to the next port, Windows 10 recognized the adapter. Then, I
followed the steps in the paragraph above. Do you know why Windows 10 could not recognize the adapter when I plugged it in the first usb 3.1 gen 2 port?

Can I use Original Xbox360 controller on pc (the controller of the xbox360)?

If the Xbox 360 controller is a wired controller, then the controller can be used on the PC, just plug it in the USB port, and it should recognize it and let you use it. If it is a wireless Xbox 360 controller, then you will need the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows to connect the controller to your PC.

Microsoft Wireless Desktop Receiver 3.1 (Model: 1028) to use with XBOX 360 wireless controller

    Heya LORD LWAJDI!

That particular receiver is for use with Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mice. I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to connect an Xbox 360 Wireless controller with it. In order to connect a wireless controller you would need to purchase the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver
    for PC.

    Hey,

I have tried it on a different PC and the issue still exists. PC just wouldn't recognize it.
Same Problem here. Did you manage to get the wireless receiver working?
