    Hardware Information:

XBOX 360 Wireless N networking adapter.

    Part No. X15-88274-01 (2009)

    USB Wireless N

    Firmware version: 2.0.2.17

    Hardware Version: A0

    Hello.

I want to discuss a common connection issue with this WiFi Adaptor. With some Wireless Modem Router/WiFi Routers If you set your WiFi security on your Router to WPA2 security protocol/Authentication you will not be able to connect. And sometimes If you set
it to WPA You will find it difficult to connect.

I have found that the main reason for this is the encryption type: TKIP/AES. AES is the new standard and depending on you Router Manufacture the XBOX Wireless network adaptor can find it easy to connect if you set the Router to either TKIP or AES encryption.

The XBOX Networking adaptor seems to like AES encryption more. So trying WPA or WPA2 with AES only should work. Sometimes WPA/WPA2 mixed settings in the Router can be difficult to connect to so choose one or the other. And also The Router encryption TKIP+AES
mixed settings can cause connection problems so try just AES or TKIP. I have found AES to work more successfully. Consult your Wireless Modem Router/WiFi Router User manual to learn how to access the setup page/screen.

This problem troubled me for a long while, But I got it sorted. My advice and humble suggestion to Microsoft XBOX team is: Release a new Driver/software update that
allows the user to set the encryption type (TKIP/AES) from a advance tab on the XBOX 360 Dashboard network settings. Then the user will have more flexibility and compatibility with a large number of Wireless Modem
Router/WiFi Routers hardware and software combinations.

I suspect that currently the XBOX 360 wireless Network adaptor's driver has encryption set to auto-negotiation but this type of setting can cause errors with some Modem Router/WiFi Routers. Allowing the User to manually set the XBOX WiFi encryption on the
Dashboard to either: Auto, TKIP or AES would be ideal. And the basic user will not be troubled because it will be under the Advance settings tab.

Simply saying change the Wireless Modem Router/WiFi Routers settings or buy a new one is unacceptable and not always easy to do. For example if the Wireless Modem Router/WiFi Router is not yours but a friend's or family's then they might not be happy with
you adjusting their settings. Or the network administrator might not be willing to help you. Then you will be stuck and unable to successfully connect your XBOX.

Some say WPA=TKIP and WPA2=AES but this not completely true when it comes to XBOX Wireless network adaptor. Some Wireless Modem Router/WiFi Router manufactures are aware of the troublesome XBOX 360 WiFi check out this link:

    http://www.draytek.co.uk/archive/kb_wlan_troubleshooting.html

Anyway I think all XBOX 360 users should petition to get Microsoft to add a advance manual encryption settings tab to allow everyone more flexibility. I hope Microsoft listens I know the 360 is getting old now
this should have been taken care of long ago, the price of the Network N adaptor was not cheap when it was launched. Other rival consoles don't suffer as much as XBOX 360 WiFi.

    Thanks for your time.

    :)

Xbox won't connect through cell phone WIFI hot spot

    Greetings!

Just to clearify one thing. For example, the internal wireless N network adapter do not have the same chip, nor the same driver as the external wireless N network adapter. So basically, you can not compare these two with each other. There are cases which the
internal N adapter can not connect to certain wireless gateway's where the external N adapter can without any issues. In such cases, the wireless gateway's firmware are not compatible with the internal wireless N adapter. The first thing one should do is try
to update the router's firmware (if this is possible).

Do you still have the external wireless network adapter?

    Wireless N

The wireless adapter bult in to the xbox 360s does not support a 5ghz frequency. If you where to buy one of the external microsoft wireless n adapters you would be able to use a 5hz connection. You will still more then likely be able to connect to your router
using your xbox's built in adapter since most routers that support 5ghz will broadcast at both 2.4ghz and 5 ghz , and at wireless b/g/n..

So in short if you where to purchase a new wirless n adapter yes you would be able to connect to a router that only broadcasts a 5ghz wireless n signal. IF you use the built in adapter then no you would not even see a network the solely broadcasts at 5ghz.

New Internet Connection Won't Wirelessly Connect Online With Xbox

Alright so I had to do some research, I found out your new Virgin Media Super Hub works Wireless with 802.11a,b,g,and n capable in 2.4GHz band plus wireless N in 5GHz band and the Xbox 360 Wireless G Networking Adapter you have it should work just not with
802.11n. So I would say try upgrading your Wireless Network Adapter to the newest "Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter" and then try connecting online to Xbox Live.
