  1. Wireless Gaming Receiver Driver no longer exists?

After a recent windows update my pc wireless gaming receiver now is displayed as an unknown device in my drivers menu and the driver cannot be found online. Is there somewhere I can find the Driver information and update the driver manually? I have had a
connected xbox 360 controller for ages and now I can no longer connect the controller to the receiver because the receiver has no installed driver.

Any help other than sending me to this link would be greatly appreciated

adapter wireless controller of the Xbox 360 to PC

It looks like the Microsoft Store no longer stocks them, but you may be able find the Wireless Gaming Receiver on Amazon or other online retailers, for instance.

  3. Trouble with my Xbox 360 Wireless Controller on my PC

    Hi,

The Xbox 360 wireless controller won't work with the play and charge kit on it's own on a PC. The Controller always remains wireless, it can't be changed to a wired controller. To use a 360 wireless controller you'll need an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver.
Microsoft no longer make these, but it is possible to buy a third party receiver, although installing them can be troublesome.

The Play and charge can be used with the PC, but only to charge the controller. The driver is only designed to automatically sync the controller to the Gaming receiver.

Only the Xbox One controller can be turned into a wired controller with an Xbox One Play and Charge, or a standard USB to Micro USB cable.

Can you use a wireless xbox 360 controller for your pc?

The Xbox 360 wireless gaming receiver for Windows is no longer in production as a stand alone product, so you may have a problem sourcing one. You can get the receiver if you buy a Xbox 360 wireless controller for Windows, as the receiver is in the same
box. The Windows Wireless pad can also be used on the 360 too.

Don't bother with a Play & Charge as it only charges, it doesn't send data.

Like my fellow ambassador has said, it's easier just to buy a wired controller. On Windows Vista and Windows 7, the driver should download and install automatically.

    Zsigma,

Are you trying to find the drivers for the Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver? If so, then the drivers are built in to Windows 10, and should install automatically when you plug the adapter into a USB port. If you are using an earlier version of windows, then
the add new hardware wizard should start, and find the drivers.

PCs require the adapter in order to use a 360 controller, as the controller uses a custom wireless format.

There are instructions to set up the receiver and controller here: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/xbox-360-wireless-gaming-receiver-windows

    Good Luck!

360 play and charge kit on PC/Windows RT

    Hello,

The play and charge only charges the controller, it can not turn a wireless Xbox 360 controller into a wired controller. To use a wireless controller, you will need a Wireless Gaming receiver. However, Microsoft no longer makes these devices. All the ones
being sold on the likes of websites such as eBay and Amazon are third party. They do work, but you may need to do the setup manually. If you run into issues, bookmark this

    link.
The link is for Windows 7, however the same procedure should work for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

The play and charge driver that was installed, just allows the controller to sync automatically with the receiver if you connect it up via the charging USB cable. It doesn't do anything else. Other than that, you could buy a wired controller.
