Wireless Controllers range decreased drastically, often disconnecting

I've had 2 controllers with the xbox since October, since having it one controller has always been a bit iffy with the connection, so I just used the plug and play lead with that one, now both controllers will only connect within a 1 ft of the console, and
neither will hold a connection, everything else works fine, I thought initially it must be the wireless in the xbox, but does the xbox use the same wireless for the internet? as it reaches the router fine which is the other side of the house, connecting with
a cable works but as soon as you unplug it it looses connection, I've updated both controllers firmware, I've done the survey too, just wondering if its both controllers is it more than likely the xbox? just find it odd the wifi connects to the router no problem

is it the controllers or the console?

I've read the guides, and done everything they say, i'm tempted to return it but I've read online with lots of people having the issue even with the new console, also most of the games I've bought are digital downloads and I don't fancy having to wait download
300gb of games if I swap it for a new console

anyway, I also wanted to add i'm using a TP Link TD-W9980 V1 with the latest firmware, and the tv connects with 5ghz, although it always seems to drop to the 2.4ghz channel after a while, my computers only use the 2.4ghz channel so I can't see if anything
is on 5ghz causing interference (not sure if that's relative but I've read on some forums saying that the wireless controllers use the 5ghz frequency) I've tried switching of the 5ghz on the router and its the same with the controllers

 

been playing around with the xbox, with the kinnect unplugged it seems to hardly pick up the controller at all, as long as I keep the top of the controller pointed directly at the Kinect sensor it seems to work at a greater distance, still far shorter than
it used to, if I point the controller up it will loose connection, point it back at the Kinect and it picks it up again,

 

Welcome to the team! Have much, but many people with this problem! I'll ahead, neither Microsoft, neither of garbage support are helping in or concerned about the problem! We supported and will continue with this garbage problem until God knows when!

I am trying all the possible channels and nobody is giving me solutions? today I switched off the console when I was playing Alien Isolation in the worst possible moment with the stupid cable..grrr

 

Request an advanced Replacment from Microsoft for the Xbox one. This is not normal......
