Wireless controller that is working but only with specific battery pack

Hi

I have 3 Xbox 360 wireless controllers. All 3 work but only with 1 of the 3 battery packs! Each of the 3 has the cover/holder for the batteries but only 1 of the 3 packs seem to work.

I know all 3 do work as I've used the reliable battery pack and holder in all 3 and managed to connect to the console. It's just 2 of the battery packs/holders aren't working when connected to any of the 3 controllers.

New batteries don't work (I've tried various brands of battery).

Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how can I fix it?

Yes, the same batteries and plastic cover work in all 3 controllers. I think the issue is the plastic cover of the battery pack on 2 of the controllers so I've bought a couple of new plastic covers from ebay to see if that makes a difference. Just find it really odd that 1 pack makes all 3 controllers work.

If you're using Xbox 360 battery packs, virtually all of them will be bad by now. They stopped making them 7 years ago, and I've seen them die sitting in a box for 2 years

Did you use standard AA batteries?

Does the working controller work with the same batteries?

Have you tried swapping the battery pack from the working controller to one of the non-working controllers? Or if you have the cable for the wireless controller, plug it in?

I have been using the regular reachargable AA batteries that come with the wireless x1 elite controller. It isnt the play and charge kit.[...]

The AA Batteries that came with my Elite controller are NON-rechargeable Duracell batteries.

If you are using rechargeable AA batteries, they will also NOT charge through the USB cable.

Only the specific battery pack of the Play and Charge kit can be charged via USB. If you look into the battery compartment, between the battery contacts, you should see three "golden" contacts. These are for the Play and Charge battery pack, and only those
contacts provide the charging capacity for the Play and Charge battery pack. No charging current is sent to the AA battery contacts, as the controller can't know if you inserted standard non-rechargeable AA batteries (which might explode if charged), or if
you are using rechargeable AA batteries.

Therefore it's not possible to charge AA batteries inside any Xbox One controller.

Hey there Comatose! I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your wireless controllers. I'd like to start with a couple clarifying questions. Have you tried other wireless controllers with your console to see if they work properly, or have you tried
using these controllers on a different console? It sounds like you think there is some battery involvement here. Are you using the AA battery pack or the rechargeable battery packs? Have you tried replacing these with fresh batteries or a different battery
