Wired Xbox 360 Controllers all identifying as the same controller number

I just bought an Xbox 360-E and 4 Microsoft First-Party Wired XBox 360 controller via Amazon and I've run into a strange problem during setup. 3 of the 4 wired controllers are always identifying as the same controller when they are plugged in. I did some
searching and this youtube video from 2011 outlines the problem I'm having exactly: . It doesn't matter what order I plug the controllers
into the Xbox 360 console or what port I use on the console. One specific controller is fine and the other three all fight for the same controller number.

I tried contacting Microsoft Live support through this website and the technician ran me through some troubleshooting. Basically he had me try plugging each controller into the four different USB ports in different combinations. Ultimately he just gave up
and didn't inform me that he had given up until after two hours of me sitting there in live chat waiting while he "looked into the issue". Evidently people have run into this problem before given that the youtube video exists. Surely three years later Microsoft
knows about the issue and has a fix. Are these three Microsoft controllers defective? Would I be better off trying to go through Amazon support than Microsoft support? Does this problem have anything to do with the fact that the three controllers that I'm
having trouble with have serial numbers that are very close to each other in numbering, suggesting they were all made around the same time? I'd appreciate any help on this matter.

    :)

2 Wired Controllers both "Sync" in the 1st Position (or as Player 1)

Two USB wired microsoft xbox360 controllers on the xbox 360 slim with kinect are synchronizing to the same player, so one of the controllers is unusable. The latest synchronized controller is always winning. If I unplug and plug in the not working controller
that one wil work again and the other one is not working anymore.

On a PC with Windows 7 both controller are working fine with different players.

The XBOX360 slim is not broken, nor the two wired controllers.

To help Microsoft to solve this problem I need an answer how the XBOX detects the wired controllers?

    a) Use the connected USB port as reference?

    b) Use the USB chipset of the controller as reference?

    c) Use the serial number of the controller as reference?

Both wired controllers have the same chipset and serialnumber. The are from the same productione batch.

Two wired controllers always assigned in same quadrant

    Dear,

all new to Xbox 360, after many years of Nintendo.

Anyway, X360 500Gb installed, up and running. The wireless controller that came in the box works perfect.

When I add one of the two wired controllers we already owned (used on Win7 64PC/Steam before the Xbox arrived) will pop up as second.

Now the problem is when I connect my second wired controller to one of the USB ports, it is recognized, but is assigned the same number (quadrant) as the previous connected wired controller (So, Wireless controller = #1 Both Wired are #2)

The first one connected is the one that will let you control the action on the screen. The second wired controller will not respond to any input. When you reverse the connection of the respective wired controllers the other will have the functionality.

So I do not assume there to be an issue with the controllers itself, rather an issue with the Xbox not recognizing/assigning the two wired controllers.

My aim would be to have each controller to have their own specific number with no specific preference of which one first or last. Just use what I bought..... . Do the controllers need to be assigned to a specific profile on the Xbox? Or is there a program/reset
    option anywhere I missed....

Many thanks for your reply. (Bart)

Wired Xbox 360 Controllers all identifying as the same controller number

Basically, it is showing it is the same player correct? Have you tried these controllers on a friends xbox to see if they are the issue?

I would try that and if it still does it I would invest in new controllers unfortunately.

You can always try clearing your cache and then restarting your xbox.

If it is not your controller I would call support and speak with hardware to see about your xbox having issues. 1-800-4MYXBOX

Yes, three specific controllers are all registering as the same controller. I plug in the one "good" controller that is problem free and it registers as controller 1. Then I plug in the "bad" controllers and each one will register as controller 2. However,
if I connect the wireless controller while the "bad" controllers are connected it will register as controller 3. The problem is with the three controllers rather than with the Xbox 360 itself.

As far as clearing the cache...the Xbox is brand new. I had this problem right out of the box before I had done anything with the machine. Investing in new controllers though? These things are brand new purchased from a retailer that gets them directly from
    the manufacturer (Microsoft).

It is stated on the packaging that these controllers come with a 1 year warranty and the manual guarantees that they will be replaced if they suffer from a factory defect. The inability to use these controllers is a defect and I'm most certainly still under
warranty considering I just bought them less than a week ago. I'm not going to just discard these controllers, forget about the problem, and buy new ones.

The biggest question is whether or not I can do something on my end via software to fix the hardware problem; or do they need to be replaced outright?

It does sound like a hardware issue, best bet would be to contact hardware and get them replaced with your warranty. You can do this by calling 1-800-4MYXBOX or you can do it online.

Both wired xbox 360 controllers are player 1

I recently experienced this exact same problem. (about a month ago)

Two brand new wired controllers and when plugging them into the USB slots on the front of the Xbox 360 S both showed up as Player 1.

I had 6 other wired controllers to run some tests with and eventually identified the faulty controller.

All of the other 7 wired controllers paired up as Player 1 and Player 2 except for one controller which still comes up as Player 1 no matter what we did or tried.

I eventually returned the faulty controller and they exchanged it for me.

    Good luck.

Trying to hook up xbox 360 controller to pc for pc games

Hello im tring to hook up my xbox 360 controller with charge cord....
    H,

That's your problem, right there. Unfortunately, if you connect your wireless Xbox 360 controller with a charging cable, all your doing is charging the controller.

The 360 wireless controller can't be turned into a wired controller with the charging cable as neither the controller or the wire were designed to send data this way.

You either need 360 wired controller or an Xbox One controller. Xbox One controllers can use wired or wireless, but wireless is only supported via Windows 10.

    Hope that helps.
