Wired XBOX 360 controller stopped working on PC / Laptop

I have used my wired xbox controller on my PC without issue for a few years and earlier this week when I plugged it in the indicator lights for the 1st and 4th player spot briefly light up and then quickly turn off.

I've tried multiple usb ports / different devices and I can't figure out what has gone wrong / why it won't work.

Anyone with any ideas?

Xbox One controller broken by Windows Anniversary Update

My Xbox elite controller just stopped working yesterday on a recently purchased laptop but already had the anniversary update on it so I can't roll back to the previous version of Windows 10.

I've noticed now that in the device and printer section of the Control Panel I've got a Xbox 360 controller for Windows entry which isn't present on another version of Windows 10 install on my desktop PC so this laptop now has two entries the elite controller
and the Xbox 360 controller in Control Panel.If I disabled the Xbox 360 controller entry I get functionality on the elite controller but on a restart Windows the 360 controller reappears in Control Panel and in device manager.

Strange thing that for a week since I've had this new laptop everything was working fine in, now steam doesn't recognise the elite controller and windows hasn't done an update so how's this happened?

Xbox 360 WIRED controller not working (but can turn on Xbox

Hey guys, I'm doing a project which includes editing videos for NCAA 14. Which means, i had to purchase a 360 and NCAA 14.

The problem is, Im plugging in the Xbox 360 WIRED controller in the following ports listed below and NOTHING is working.

Player 1, Player 2, 2 inputs in the back of the Xbox 360 E.

But strangely, when i plug in the Xbox 360 WIRED controller into any of those inputs, i can turn the Xbox 360 E console ON. But that's all it does.

Btw, the Xbox 360 WIRED controller works with my PC just fine. I just bought the controller today and works fine with the PC and can power the Xbox 360 Console E on.

1. No info has been given on when support will stop.

2. red Ring of Death only affected the older model Xbox 360's it just overheated and stopped working.

3. You have to be the owner of the game to be able to play it, or some one can do a license transfer on your console, then you can play their games.

4. yes a xbox 360 controller can be connected to a pc or laptop to play games, but you need the xbox 360 wireless controller adapter for windows if the controller is wireless. If it is a wired controller, you just need to plug it in.

It doesn't really matter if the PC/Laptop has Bluetooth or not though. The user is trying to get the controller to work with a wire, which worked before, and is the same wire I'm using. My PC doesn't have Bluetooth.

I already stated earlier that the Play and charge for the Xbox One also sends data, and it can turn a wireless controller into a wired controller. Only the 360 play and charge is just a charger.

The xbox 360 plug and play cable cannot be used to make a 360 controller a wired device. The plug and play only provides power to the controller it does not transfer data between the controller and the PC/Laptop

It will work if your have a PC/Laptop running Windows 10. It's not going to work on another TV.

Plug in a controller using the Plug and Play USB wire to the PC/Laptop and you're good.
