    Wired xbox 360 controller not working on pc


    I have a wired Xbox 360 controller that I used to play on my PC, just connected and installed some drivers and got it working. A few months ago the controller just stopped working. I connect, the controller flash the lights and doesn't turn on. Also, it doesn't appear on my device manager list, not even when showing hidden devices. Here's what I've tried so far:

    - Since I can find the controller on device list, I couldn't just ask the device manager to update the drivers because, well, I can't find it anywhere on the list.

    - Tried to change usb ports, to no avail.

    - My windows is up to date, so I don't need no updates on the OS.

    - Tried to uninstall and re-install the Microsoft Xbox 360 accessories status, nada.

    And here's the thing, the controller is working just fine. I know because I have an old notebook that I used to use the controller, and there it just works. It appears on the device list as an Xbox 360 controller, when I go to Joystick configurations he's there as well.

    Any other help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Paul from the Xbox Forums Team here to assist with the issue, it looks like you're trying to get a Xbox 360 controller to work on your pc. How is this controller connecting to your PC? Is it a wired controller or wireless controller? If it's a wireless 360
    controller there is a wireless dongle that would be needed to have the controller work on PC. Please let us know.

    Is the controller a wireless controller or wired? If it is wireless, how are you connecting it? If by using the play & charge kit, then the Xbox 360 controller will not work, as the cable is only recognized on PC for charging only. You need to use a Xbox
    360 Wireless adapter for PC to connect a wireless Xbox 360 controller to your PC.

    My MadCatz 360 controller works with PC games, so yes third party wired controllers do work on the PC.

    To play on a PC with an Xbox 360 controller you need to get a wired controller. On Xbox 360 the "wire" is only used for charging on the wireless controller.

    Both wired and wireless Xbox 360 controllers work on Windows 10. Wired is just plug and play while wireless controllers need a receiver. I know 360 controllers work as I've used them on my own gaming PC running the latest version of Win 10.
