Wired Xbox 360 controller isn't recognized on Windows 10 PC

Hello. I've spent at least 3 hours on this issue and read through at least 70-80 topics and posts on multiple different forums, websites and Microsoft support / help pages.

When I connect my Xbox controller, almost immediately 4 (all) lights start flashing (in middle) and nothing happens. Controller doesn't show up in device manager, it isn't even listed as an Unknown device (as many others had). I
tried installing drivers, nothing happens (Win10 should be plug and play anyways). I tried Xbox Accessories app, I can't even get through the first prompt (''Connect device to PC''). There is no 'connect' sound when I plug it in and 'disconnect' sound when
I pull it out as well. It's like it doesn't even exist. I tried other USB ports, nothing. Tried restarting PC, nothing.

This problem is weird, because controller worked few months (2-3) ago and I didn't touch it since then. No changes on my PC or Windows. I played multiple games with the controller before and everything worked fine. So this sudden issue is surprising. I mean,
how can it be broken if no one touched it since the last time it worked? To be honest, it's quite old, I had it for 5-6+ years now.

I have Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

Can anyone point in me the right direction? Should I buy a new one? Thanks for any help.

XBox 360 Controller for Windows 10

Good evening (from Slovakia)! I want to buy an XBox 360 Wired Controller for my PC and my question is: Can I use a normal XBox Wired 360 controller (which is given to XBox 360s) on Windows 10, or I have to buy a new one specialized for Windows 10?

I definitely have a wired unit

windows 10 does not recognize it at all.

I tried installing the software that came with it - device not recognized

I tried uninstalling the software from the installation disc and just plugging it in as directed - - device not recognized

has anyone out there actually gotten the xbox 360 wired controller working on windows 10?

If there are updated drivers I cant find them anywhere

 

SOLVED.

I'm going to sound like an idiot here, but it seems that connection between the USB plug and Xbox plug was loose. I just reconnected them and everything works. Honestly I didn't even know that the wire was in two parts (original Xbox connector + PC USB connector).
I feel dumb...
