  1. Wired multiplayer keeps disconnecting as soon as game starts


    So My ISP stopped service at my location, and It was taken over by another company (Vodafone) and now my xbox connection is not reliable. 1GBit/s

    - Wired connection: Whenever I start a game, party gets found, game loads, 4 second passes, then it disconnects. Xbox Store is happily able to download with 1GB/s speed though without any issues. Its only when the game starts and probably VOIP or something gets setup, it drops me off

    - Wireless connection: Online multiplayer gameplay works but every Day I am wairing for like 40 seconds when I take the xbox for a spin after a day of work. It needs to connect to my profile for that long. Before the ISP swap this was immediate. Other than this, I also need to fully reconnect to my wifi as it stops completely working after a few days.

    My environment:

    - Coax Cable is coming into the home and its wired into the Vodafone Gigabit router. I then use the LAN ports to connect to a switch that then forwards the internet to my TV, Xbox and AppleTV. There is no other router or such things

    - Im using IPV6 on the router

    I tried the followings:

    - Router Restart

    - Router Reset

    - Router reset with help from ISP

    - Forcing Router to only use IPv4 —> Managed to get it to open NAT but it had been showing different errors and nothing was working

    - Restart Xbox

    - Xbox power cycle

    - Reset Xbox settings, keeping games and apps, but after login not syncing settings from cloud

    - changing DNS settings

    - changing ports

    - ipv6 exposure

    - UPNP enabled

    I'm not sure what else I could try. This issue does not happen with any other devices so I can't just ask the ISP anymore.

    Can you help or let me know anything else I could try?

    No worries, thanks for confirming. This info would help the Xbox team to look into this, so hopefully there’s some progress soon.

    I’m not sure if having the router in bridge mode and having another router in the setup would help in this situation, but it’s certainly a good idea to consider. Everything you’ve tried already though should’ve, theoretically, resolved this.

    Also, something I forgot to mention in my previous response - when you report this problem, you may add [Xbox Forums] to the title of the report so it’s easier to find with more visibility, then share this here once complete.

    Hi,

    While I have some expertise in advanced network troubleshooting, I’m not really a network expert either. I understand you’ve already tried a lot of possible solutions, so I won’t annoyingly ask you to go through all this again. Just a few questions to help here.

    There’s not any outages at the moment as per the Xbox Live Status and on Twitter @XboxSupport

    What’s the specific router model? Refer to this guide:

    Where is my router model/serial number? - Vodafone Support

    Can you confirm:

    1. Which Xbox console are you experiencing this error on - Xbox One or Series X|S? Please specify the exact model.
    2. Are you an Xbox Insider and what OS version are you currently on? You can find this info in Settings > System > Console info. If there’s any pending software updates, be sure to install and apply these.
    3. Are you disconnected from all online games, or only certain games in particular? And to clarify, are you disconnected from the game servers/matchmaking or Xbox Live itself?

    I’m not sure what country/region you’re in, but based on my experience, Vodafone is usually a decent ISP and phone network here in the UK.

    Depending on your bundle/plan, I believe they can send you a 4G (or sometimes even 5G) MiFi device as a backup - this is simply a mini portable Wi-Fi device similar to a mobile hotspot. The terms and conditions may vary on this and it would most likely unfortunately only be 4G, but if you do manage to get one of these, then see if there’s an improvement or any difference when your Xbox is connected to this as a temporary workaround. It may help with the extent of these complications, especially as this seems to have started from when your previous ISP moved you over to this one.

    Just in case you haven’t already tried this, on their general Help and Support page > Broadband > Speed & connection issues > ‘What should I do if I have broadband problems?‘ they recommend to complete a network performance test if you experience connection drops, slow speeds, etc to identify any significant faults and various reliability issues on the network.

    Also, if this only occurs on your Xbox console, please report this problem so the development team can take a closer look with all the diagnostic data.

    I would also post to the Vodafone Community Forums where you may receive additional advice regarding this. There are official staff and helpful moderators there as well and if they try to redirect you here, explain that you still have an open thread in Xbox and you’re just looking for other possible options to help resolve this. You can always reach out to support team on Twitter @VodafoneUK (they have separate social media pages for different countries).

    It’s generally your ISP’s responsibility to address any issues with your network connection, regardless of how many devices are affected. If this persists, it would be best to contact both Xbox Support and Vodafone Support directly for real-time assistance - select live chat or request a call back. If you get connected to the virtual agent with automated answers, just type in ‘agent’ to actually speak with someone. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
