Wired Headsets no sound

As of this week I am no longer able to hear any sound from numerous sets of headphones - have Microsoft blocked "non approved" headphones with their latest software update this week?

Up until this week I've been able to plug any set into controller but this week silence. I checked with several sets, no joy, and even bought a new controller thinking my stock XBox One controller was playing up but I've had exactly the same with a brand new controller.

I've updated console & controller, soft & hard reset on XBox, and finally did a full factory reset - firstly keeping games installed, and then completely starting from scratch (not using saved settings) to eliminate any hardware issues. All with same result - no sound.

XBox recognises I have headset plugged in (icon top rhs on home page), all volume settings good but still silence.

I have since borrowed an "official headset" and it works with that......But that means that not only have a spent £55 on new controller, but I may have to buy another headset. I don't play in a party, so I don't need mic, but being able to use a set of earbuds when playing was very handy to save having everyone have to listen to what I am playing. I've had no issue with doing so for years, so if (as I think) the latest software update is to blame then i'm sorry Microsoft that stinks. If something has a 3.5mm headphone jack then it shouldn't matter what you plug into it, you should still get sound.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I've worked through all checks and even done a factory reset

Have managed to try a proper gaming headset and it works with that.

My issue is that up until Monday I could use just headphones with no issues...I find it annoying that a software update has stopped basic headsets being used... Even a reasonably expensive set of earbuds with mic have stopped working.

I don't want to have a big headset on when I play, and don't need mic to play solo offline, so whatever had been changed to block such need to be rolled back

Hello, regarding you headset issue you may need to try some basic troubleshooting steps on your console to see if your issue will be resolved.

Please try following the steps on this link Xbox Support first.

If the issue persists you can try a reset on your console with keeping games and apps Xbox Support.

If other headsets work fine then it must an issue with the earbuds/headset you are trying to use, they must not be compatible to be used with your Xbox console.

I would suspect it's something of some sort on youe end...I use both an expensive Steelseries headset and a pair of cheap-ish in-ear mobile phone headphones with no issue with my XBOne controller, albeit via the controller audio adapter

Thanks for the reply.... Having checked with a set of turtle beach cans with mic they worked, and checked with my kids Xbox and same issue... The earbuds that did work with his controller last week now don't
