Wired download speed is much slower than wireless - should be just the opposite. Ideas? Seen ...

The other day I was downloading the most recent update for my Xbox One. I noticed that it took quite a long time which seemed surprising given my download speed on other devices. Here is what I tried and found:

    1. Ran 'Detailed Network Statistics' with the wired connection. Result was an abysmal 17Mbps.
    2. If I simply take out the cable from the back of the Xbox and plug it into my laptop, I get a download speed of 122Mbps.
    3. Now, I know what some might say, "you might be hitting a different server for the Xbox download test".
    4. That's true, so connected the Xbox via Wireless and ran 'Detailed Network Statistics' again.
    5. If #3 is true, and in general, I'd expect Wireless download to as fast as or slower than Wired, but definitely not faster.
    6. But the Wireless result was a download speed of 75Mpbs - 4 times as fast as Wired.
    7. That didn't make any sense to me.
    8. I have run the tests several times always with the same result.
    9. Because of step 2, I don't think there is a problem with the wires/routers etc.
    10. I have checked the settings on my cable modem (xfinity) and Netgear R6300v2 router (latest firmware) but didn't see anything that would explain the slower wired download speed.
    11. Contacted Xbox Support and they said "Wired should be faster", but hasn't offered up any ideas.
    12. Searching the Internet/Forums hasn't revealed anything so far.
So while the Wireless connection should certainly be fast enough, it would be nice to know what's going on and take advantage of what should be a faster wired download speed.

Anyone hear about this before? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    :)

    Slow download speeds?

PC Wired is getting 26-30 Mbps, iPhone 4S 16 Mbps, and Xbox one (wireless) is only getting 4 Mbps. Any reason why my 2 year old cell phone would be getting better wifi download speed than Xbox one?? I know moving the xbox to wired would probably produce
better speeds, but why so slow with wireless?

New Xbox and can't download free Skyrim

I'm in RI, USA. Just did a speed test too. My computer is wireless and it's 24 ping, 9.58 download and 8.24 upload. That's usually what I've seen people asking next. My Xbox is wired, so it should be faster.

    Just to clarify:

The issue here is not the download speed itself. That certainly depends on e.g. which server the 'Detailed Network Statistics' test hits. But what seems strange to me is that a Wireless connection is consistently 4 times faster than a Wired connection -
that makes no sense, and is the issue I am trying to get to the root of. I don't believe there is anything wrong with the wired connection itself (based on # 2 above).

Wifi is faster than ethernet on Xbox Series X?!

When I’m playing games in multiplayer when wired I never have a lag or something similar while wireless caused cancer to my nerves. For example in Fifa when I play with my friends I’m constantly laging and seeing the high ms icon on top. There is no difference if I play online friendlies (which I think is hosted locally who sends the invitation) or when I play 2v2 coop (which is hosted on EA servers). I will repeat that this is not the case when wired. As you can tell there is no reason not to use wired connection with this information, but when it comes to download speeds wired is slower than snail trying to climb skyscraper. For example I can download Forza Horizon 4 when wireless in 3 hours, but it takes 9 when wired. I tested out this on several games and on PC as well. On PC on the same cable Forza Horizon 4 took 3 hours and several minutes (here comes the fast SSD and velocity architecture I think)
Fair enough, just thought I'd mention it.

It is strange that Wired is slower than Wi-Fi given, ordinarily, it is the opposite way round, namely Wi-Fi being slower. So, Wi-Fi is faster for downloading etc but results in you getting lag....wired gives no lag but has massively reduced download speeds. It's weird

I don’t want to blame Microsoft for this because I never heared this from anyone before and can’t find any fix on the internet as well, but if someone had the same mysterious issue I want to hear how they fixed it.

Ping / latency from UK 170 ms with wired broadband connection 12 Mbps d/l and 1 Mbps u/l

You don't say if you are using wired or wireless.

Your brothers stats look like he is using a wired connection which would explain his COD being less laggy.

If your connection is wireless then that is very unreliable. Wireless can cause slower speeds, packet loss, higher pings and lag.

From personal experience I have found BT hubs have terrible wireless.

I have had a homehub 2, homehub 3 and now a homehub 5. All of them had crap wireless. Speed are a lot slower via wifi than they are when wired. Also I get more packet loss and the ping is a bit higher.

If you are using wireless then you should try using wired to see if that makes a difference.
