    Wiping Firmware


    Hey guys,

    Really hoping someone on here can help me.

    I've over the last few years really enjoyed my xbox, so other day on a local forum a Xbox 360 slim popped up for sale at a good price. So went ahead and bought it for the Girlfriend so we can game together when she's not here.

    Long story short, Turns out this xbox has been software flashed and the seller has disappeared. Now I'm not looking for some work around to connect to xbox live. I want a complete wipe to remove every bit of this flash software, as it looks like its changed
    the xbox live server list address to connect to something else.

    again I don't want some work around as that could mean I could use the flash and play free games on XL (Not Cool) so therefore I want to just wipe this whole thing and return it to how it came out the box. I've done the whole LT, RT, X, Y, Lb, RB. did the
    reset but still nothing.

    sorry pretty sure there is NO way to remove any firmware changes your sadly only option is to deal with the seller which sounds like you cannot or buy another 360. THIS is why you should never buy a used console unless you know it's history.

    I did the offline system update and still no change, gives me the error that the game can't be played.

    I'm thinking at this point the only option I have left is wipe the drive and download fresh firmware/OS and set up from scratch.

    "Stock firmware" - firmware in a state equal to that of buying off-the-shelf, or "what's in stock".

    Firmware is the sort of hardware equivalent of software. You can think of "flashing" as another word for "installing". The difference is, "flashing" over-writes whatever was there before, and is not installed as a "patch" or "add-on."

    There are people out there who have modified their own version of the DVD drive firmware to enable play of copied or otherwise non-authentic discs. If such firmware were in place, and the system had not (for whatever reason) been flagged by the servers as
    "modded console" this most recent update would wipe out such custom firmware and replace it with the official version created by Microsoft.

    The update didn't wipe your drive. Your drive failed which caused the xbox to not be able to read the firmware. When it couldn't find the data, it downloaded the "update". Your data was probably unreadable before the downloading happened. It sucks but
    that is what most likely happened. There is no official way to retrieve your data. Sorry.
