Windows Play Anywhere and moving from physical to digital edition game

Thanks Hey Papi - I took a leap and got the standard edition digital via Windows Store and everything else including my progress from Xbox One carried over right away, so that's great news. It probably is pretty specific game to game, as you mentioned all
of the Ultimate Edition content is unlocked via codes, and was not specific to the actual disk itself, so it worked in this case.

In the future I'll be sure to get the digital version the first time. Thanks again

Depends on the content of the Ultimate Digital Edition. If the game came with promo codes that you had to redeem then you should be in the clear with just purchasing the standard digital copy of Forza H3. From what I can tell the car packs are standalone
to the game which anyone can purchase when and if it is released by the publisher. So I think it may be safe to assume that you will be able to keep your extras from the ultimate edition when you move to the digital version.

It's strange what happened. Play Anywhere works on X1 and PC only with digital purchases and not with physical disc. There is also written explicitly on the
site: "when you own an Xbox Play Anywhere digital title, it's yours to play on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC". Try asking for a refund for the game and buying it in digital
version from the store.

Since you bought a physical copy, you won't be able to play on the PC. Only digital editions are cross play at this moment.

From the troubleshooting section (https://support.xbox.com/en-CA/games/game-titles/xbox-play-anywhere-help):

"Make sure you’re playing a digital version of the game. You won’t be able to use Xbox Play Anywhere with a game disk. "

If I remember right the Play Anywhere idea of having your saves go between PC to Xbox and back to PC only applie to digital download versions of games, the physical version doesn't (or didn't) offer that feature.

This is taken direct from Microsofts "Play Anywhere" page.

" When you buy an Xbox Play Anywhere digital game through the Xbox Store or the Windows Store, it’s yours to play on both Xbox One and Windows 10 PC at no additional cost. To take advantage of Xbox Play Anywhere, you will need to have installed the Windows
10 Anniversary Edition update on your PC, as well as the latest update on your Xbox One console. Then, simply log into your Xbox Live/Microsoft account and your Xbox Play Anywhere games will be available to download. On your Xbox One, games will show as “Ready
to Install” under “My Games and Apps”. On your Windows 10 PC, games will appear in “My Library"

So it looks like it hasn't changed, you have to buy the digital version on Xbox to get the free PC version (or Vice Versa) and also to get the game saves to transfer.
