Windows phone 8 xbox video cannot download purchased movies

When I tried to press download button, it said "Download failed. Failed to acquire license for download". I restarted the app, and the phone, or use "restore purchase" option, but none of these worked.

Anyone has any hints? Thanks in advance.

Downloading purchases

Using video app on windows 8 allows you to download purchased or rented movies.

What are the expected behaviors of this ability. Or in other words what are the limitations to downloading the movie from the video app?

 

Movie purchased on Xbox 360 does not appear in Xbox Video app on W8

I recently purchased a movie through Xbox Video on the Xbox 360 but the movie does not appear in my library in the Xbox Video app for Windows 8.

Is there any way to make the movie appear in my library?

 

Same error here on both music and video whether purchased on Win8PC, XBOX or WP8

Download and cloud retrieval works flawlessly on Win8 PC, most of the time on XBOX

but almost never on Windows Phone

any info on a fix for this problem?

Please try these steps: First unpin the Video tile, open Internet Explorer and then tap the "...", go to "Settings" and clear the browsing history. From there tap "Advanced Settings" and "Allow all cookies". Restart your phone and then re-pin the tile.

 

I am having the same issue with some movies. I can stream them fine, but when I try to download them it says "Download failed. Failed to acquire license for download". I had previously downloaded the movies no problem, but I got an update for Xbox Video
a few days ago and the downloaded movies would not play. I deleted and re-installed the video player and now I get the error every time I try to download movies. I tried the suggestion above and it did not make a difference.

 

I have the same issue. I can neither stream or download. I tried the suggestions.

and when I try logging in to video.xbox.com I end up in an infinite redirect loop. First I seem my username and videos, but then I am sent to the login site and back again.

 

I still can't download my movies. If you Google"failed to acquire license for download" you will find that lots of people have this issue

 

Well, I think I've found the problem. You're only allowed a certain number of download licenses for videos purchased from Xbox Video. In most cases this limit is maxed out at 4. A download license is consumed when any of the following actions are performed:

You download the video

You copy a downloaded video

You move a downloaded video to a different device

This said, it does not appear that Microsoft has any control over this method of Digital Rights Management encoded to the videos. From what I understand, it is entirely up to the content publisher (the company that made the movie or show). There is no way
to replenish these download licenses, not even Microsoft support has the ability to do this. I understand this is probably not the answer you were looking for, but it does explain quite a lot. You will always be able to stream the video without worrying about
licenses though.

 

I am currently buying movies on Amazon Instant Video because of this issue. They allow you to clear download licenses. I have posted a feature request so go vote for it. Maybe someday they will fix this issue.

I have been having this issue for months on the two movies I bought through XBox Video. I'll just keep buying movies for my kids from Amazon until they fix it. Thanks.
