windows phone 8 - xbox music app - not syncing xbox music playlists

    ok the details:

Been using xbox music sub for 2 years, I have locally cached content that plays fine on desktop and laptop both windows 8.

windows phone music app syncs the lot.

the new xbox music app doesn't, it doesn't sync playlists and seems to lag like hell.

I have 6 playlists on xbox music (on windows 8 and they show on xbox music), they do not show on xbox music app on WP, the playlists I create on the WP app do not sync back to cloud (or windows apps).

    Anyone else found this?

    :)

windows phone 8 - xbox music app - not syncing xbox music playlists

I experienced a similar issue which materialized in Oct 2013, whereby my Music+Videos app was unable to even see any of the 'cloud' playlists. However playlists that were still in my 'History', did continue to function, and songs which I added to those playlists
via the xbox music website, were added to those playlists as well. However those playlists in my 'History' did not appear in the playlists section of the app (only in the history section).

Then in December I attempted to purchase an Xbox Music Pass and was unable to, and so that's when I contacted Microsoft support. So over the past month I worked with them to determine the exact nature of the problem, and apparently it was due to some backend
issue with my Microsoft account and the marketplace. A fix was enacted by the marketplace team sometime this month, and both issues have now been resolved completely. I enquired if this 'fix' would also be applied to other people's accounts who might be experiencing
similar issues, and they indicated that it would be. In any event if your issue was rooted in the same cause as mine, then hopefully it might be functional now. So you can restart your phone and see if the playlists now appear. I would like to add that the
support team was very responsive and helpful over the past month in resolving this issue.

    Hi there gingerboy79,

Try this: First go to music.xbox.com, then click the " + " under some songs and go to "Add to collection". From your collection, make a new playlist with the newly added songs then see if it shows on your phone.

Moving playlists to my Windows Phone 8

Take a look at this Microsoft support article:

    support.microsoft.com/.../2784105

"If your playlists contain songs from your computer's personal music collection, create the playlist in the Zune software or create the playlist in Windows Media Player and use the Windows Phone app for desktop to sync the playlist to your phone."

"If your playlists contain Xbox Music songs, get an Xbox Music Pass to play these on your phone."

So if you are like me and don't use the Microsoft music pass:

    1. Don't use the Windows 8, metro Windows Phone App

    2. Don't use XMBOX Music App

    3. Install Windows Phone App for Desktop

I already had synched with the metro Windows Phone app from my Windows 8 laptop, so I:

    1. Wiped my phone (settings, about, reset phone), keep in mind this will wipe all data, so if you have anything you need on it then back it up first

    2. Went through setup steps on my phone, but did not connect it to my computer

    3. Removed the Music metro app (XBOX Music) and metro Windows Phone app

    4. Downloaded and Installed the Windows Phone App for desktop

    5. Recreated playlists I had deleted in trying to fix this issue by using my zune software and auto playlists, then closed the Zune software.

    6. Plugged in my phone to my computer

    7. Launched Windows Phone app for desktop

    8. Selected the music and playlists I wanted and clicked synch button

    9. Now my playlists are on my phone, but have no songs

    10. I clicked sync again and I noticed it still said I had 6 songs to sync, I clicked again a couple times and got down to 3 songs and an error popped up that these 3 songs couldn't be synced.

    11. I closed the windows phone app

    12. I moved the 3 songs out of my music library to another location ( I used downloads)

    13. I opened the WP 8 desktop app and synched again. Now it said synching my playlists at the bottom

I now have all my playlists populated. It must be the last thing that is synched and the error on the 3 songs prevented it from ever getting to it.

Sync music on Win 8 phone

Are you using the Phone app or the Windows Phone app for Desktop? There's two versions you can use to transfer music. You could also use Windows Media Player for transferring data. It's also fantastic for making playlists.

    pocketnow.com/.../how-to-sync-windows-phone-8-automatically
is the link I found on how to auto sync music.

You could also try the mass transfer protocol to drag and drop your music collection - this method does NOT work with DRM protected (like the Music Pass) music.

Sync DRM XBox Music to Windows Phone 8

There have been some hiccups in DRM with syncing to a Windows Phone 8. Interestingly, this is sometimes associated to the hidden cache data on the phone.

    ~

What I had to do to fix a similar problem was delete the music from the phone, turn on hidden files and folders, and delete the contents of the four hidden folders (playlists seems to be optional). After that's done, try restarting the phone and syncing
the music again. It might take a few minutes for the drm to sync back up with your account.

    ~

Another option is to create a playlist of all music in the Zune software and then use the Windows Phone app for Desktop to sync the playlist to your phone. Once it's been synced, you can delete the playlist .PLA file out of the hidden playlist folder. This
seems to remove the DRM that associates the music to a particular account (but still identifies it as Music Pass content) and let's you play it right away.

    ~

    Good luck!

Moving playlists to my Windows Phone 8

When is MS going to allow me to use xbox music pass playlists to SYNC the music between my windows 8 pc and my window phone 8 SO that the music is stored on the wp8 device SO I am not paying ATT broadband fees every time I want to play music pass music?

Zune had this feature - the music would be local on the phone or zunehd device but expire after about a month IF the device didn't reconnect to the Zune software - truly the best of both worlds..

What I think is also not mentioned in any of the official MS work arounds is: running Windows Media Player, Zune, xbox music metro app cause PLAYLISTS to DUPLICATE and TRIPLICATE on your PC... Zune re-creates WMP playlists, then WMP fights back and XBOX
    finds them BOTH... UGGGGG

playlist createdbon xbox do not show all songs on winphone 8

I just checked on my Windows 8 laptop under the "Music" app and the playlists I created on the Xbox console are listed under my music and they have the correct number of songs in each playlist and they have the correct songs in each playlist. So this appears
to be a clear bug in windows phone 8.
