Windows Live, PSN and 2K hacked

I have been using online CC's for well over a decade. I have only been breached once. Guess where? My live account.

Why are there so many people that think MS in infallible to these types of things? Take off your rose colored glasses people, it can happen to any company.

Yeah it doesn't appear to have happened here.

Amusingly you've got people saying "Yeah, I'm ok, my email wasn't on the list"... when the guys who published the list state it's an excerpt. If they're telling the truth then everyone's details have been compromised.

But as there's no legitimate news confirming this has actually happened this is going to have to be filed over "people will say anything on the internet".

If this true. And happens again. My napthew would be disappointed if dose happen. Because he wants a PS4.

There's an MS app called Authenticator, on my WinPhone, that is needed to generate a 6-digit security code that changes every sixty seconds. I have to use this every time I want to make a change to any of my online MS stuff, even if I've already logged in
with the regular password. I'm pretty sure it would be available for iOS & Android phones, too. Anyone with Live account concerns might want to look into it, if they feel they need another layer of protection.

I would expect MS to encypt their password its standard practice in all languages, in C# (A Ms language) they have a built in encryption library, so I would be massively suprised if the stored MS passwords weren't encrypted, and easy way for the hacker
to convince people would be to publish how they decrypted the passwords.

@Randver the best option you have other than not shopping at those places is to use prepaid CC/Debit cards. After the Sony attack in 2011(I didn't have a PS+ sub) I made the decision to only use prepaid for any online service. That's why I dont have Netflix
because they dont accept prepaid cards and dont do gift cards for some strange reason. I was also impacted by the Target hack last Christmas but all they got was 37 cents because I used a prepaid card. Of course it costs a few bucks to get one but you can't
place a price on peace of mind.
