Windows Can't Control Volume of an Xbox Headset Connected via Xbox Wireless Adapter

    Hi!

So I recently made a partial switch from Xbox to PC, and brought my Razer Thresher headset with me:

I use it on my PC with the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10:

It's a nice headset that I really like using, and its operation on Windows 10 is officially supported according the Razer product page and manual, and really its been pretty flawless and easy except for one thing: Windows seems completely unable to control
the audio at all. Mute, volume up/down, etc, don't function at all. Not with the media controls on my keyboard, or in the volume mixer, or in the sound area of the windows settings. Any changes are shown on screen but not reflected in the actual operation
    of the headset.

The hardware controls present on the headset work as expected, but I can't figure out why the PC can't control this audio output.

It shows up in Windows as "Headphones (Xbox Controller), and is the default input / output device. I haven't been able to find any posts of this specific issue but based on some general googling I've tried disabling all other audio devices in the Device Manager,
and I've tried restarting the "Windows Audio" and "Windows Audio Endpoint Builder" in the Services menu. I've also tried uninstalling both the headset and the adapter from the device list.

All relevant drivers are up to date as far as I can tell.

One other odd thing is that I swear a few weeks ago when I first finished my build that it worked correctly, I swear I remember it being really loud and having to turn it way down almost immediately. Not sure what might have changed since then, if I'm remembering
    that correctly.

Not sure where to go from here. As I'm new to PC I'm similarly new to Windows, so I'm not sure what else to try. I understand this is a bit of a niche issue, but insight from anyone with more knowledge or a similar issue with running a set up like this would
    be hugely appreciated!

    :)

Audio via 2 Xbox one controllers via laptop

    Hello Algreco,

Thanks for keeping us updated. This function is possible according to a Bluetooth support article that compares connecting via the Wireless adapter : Connect
and troubleshoot Bluetooth on your Xbox One Wireless Controller

"Windows 10 - Xbox Wireless Controller and Xbox Stereo Headset – 2

Note Wireless connection requires Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows"

What happens if you try connecting the player 2 controller first, so that it is now considered player 1. Are you able to hear audio from the headset now? If not, then the controller could be faulty.

    Elite Series 2

Das bezieht sich auf die Nutzung des Elite 2 Controllers mit Windows 7/8.1 Betriebssystemen.

Eine Liste der nicht unterstützten Funktionen für Android und Windows 7/8.1 findest Du auf dieser Seite:

    https://support.xbox.com/xbox-on-wi...ller-differences-on-windows-operating-systems

    [Translation]

The "not supported" functions are in regards to Windows 7/8.1 and Android.

A list of what is or is not supported is on this website:

    https://support.xbox.com/xbox-on-wi...ller-differences-on-windows-operating-systems

For example, you can connect the Elite 2 Controller wireless via Bluetooth or Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 only on Windows 10. For Windows 7/8.1 that type of wireless connection is not supported.

Additionally connected controller accessories (e.g. the Chatpad) are not supported via Bluetooth. But are supported via Xbox Wireless Adapter.

You can listen to game sound through a headset connected to the controller only via USB or Xbox Wireless Adapter. But via Bluetooth only voice chat is supported. And on Windows 7/8.1 game sound isn't possible at all through the controller.

Xbox One stereo headset for 360 console?

Xbox One wireless stereo headset? I wouldn't know about it being "wireless", but are you actually talking about the
wired stereo headset that Microsoft sells for Xbox One? If so, the stereo headset does have a 3.5mm connector at the end. The
Xbox 360 has a 2.5mm port for headset. It can technically connect to the Xbox 360 controller with a 3.5mm(female)-to-2.5mm(male) adapter.

I think that the Xbox One stereo headset relies on the included adapter module for physical control of the volume and mute, and since that adapter can't be used on the Xbox 360 controller, volume adjustment will require you to go to the Xbox 360 Guide menu
and adjust the volume somewhere in the settings/options.

Please also note that while game sounds can be heard by connecting a headset/headphones to an Xbox One controller, the Xbox 360 does not have that functionality built in to the controller. Any audio headset plugged into the controller would be used for voice chat
    only.

Is it possible to use the Xbox 360 controller with PC Minecraft?

The Xbox 360 controller, assuming you’re using wireless only charges via USB. You would need to get the now discontinued 360 wireless adapter

Any Xbox one controller will connect via USB, Bluetooth, or the Xbox wireless adapter. You need to use USB or the Xbox adapter for headset support

my control's headphones input is failing

The Xbox One does not support USB headset, the console only supports wired connection to the controller via the 3.5 mm jack or with the Xbox One headset adapter. which connects to the bottom of the controller, or you can use a wireless headset which connects
straight to the Xbox One wireless connection. Your best bet would be to purchase the Xbox One headset adapter.
