    Windows Blocking Saving New Games to External HD


    Hello, I have recently purchased an external hard drive for my laptop as the games take up a lot of the memory. I have downloaded games from Steam that go straight to my external drive but when I try to download games from the game pass it is never an option to go to my external drive despite setting it as the default in my xbox settings. I have spoken to the Xbox help service but they suggest it is a problem with windows and not game pass itself? Has anyone had a similar problem that they were able to resolve?

    Hi Henry,

    Thanks for reaching out to the forums! Have you insured that the external drive is formatted in NTFS? Often times if a drive is formatted as anything else it will prevent functionality from the Xbox app.

    The other option would be for you to format your console completely.

    Excuse the question but are your games saved all on the external HD or on your internal HD?

    Maybe it could be a problem where the games are stored.

    I haven't deleted a game from my hd since I got my XB1, and probably won't until I run out of space to add a new game. I'd pick up an external hd to transfer save and all, but I don't have the funds at this time. So I am like your son in this way.

    Besides the internal hd is possible to connect external hd, I've used them and flows normally, it just needs to recognize and when saving a game or download it will ask where you want it to be stored.
