  1. Windows 11 - Recorded Mic Volume Super Low Yet In-Game Mic Volume Sounds Fine?

I'd love to cross-post but apparently not allowed... Also, sorry BUT got 0 reponses from both r/WindowsHelp & r/techsupport

So here's the deal. Initially Game Bar has been trash in terms of recording past gameplay. I modify surface-level settings, disable echo cancelation within Registry Editor, and everything's crisp.

Suddenly, the next day, I snapshot another recording and my recorded mic volume is very low. I compare it to mic volume when in games, calls, etc. and it sounds normal.

I go into Sound Settings and see that I can record samples of my mic to play it back. Turns out, the test mode has 2 modes, Default and Communications. Default has the low volume while Communications has normal volume.

Settings -> System -> Sound -> Mic Input but is read as Properties -> Microphone Test

This is my question, how do I go about increasing recorded mic volume without messing with the communications mode? I think recording uses default while my games/calls use communications. Is there a way to force Communications to be used for recording or force Default and manually increase the volume?

I've tried both Game Bar and Geforce Experience but both don't seem to have a setting to choose which "mic mode" to choose.

Going back, re-enabling Echo Cancelation fixes the volume problem BUT reintroduces static into my recordings. As of now I have to choose between inaudible vs annoying audio...

Astro a20 headset - People can't hear me

So the input is very low even when testing on Windows settings, right? Please check if the mic input is on max levels:

    - Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > Choose mic > Device Properties. Use the slider to increase mic volume.

If the issue persists after the Windows sound input is on max levels, please let me know.

    new update

If you are not using a kinect as a mic party chat will not reduce game sound, you then have power of voice volume through mic and game volume through television.

    Need a mic mix

There is no way to turn up the volume on the mic OUT in the xbox app but you can turn it up in the windows settings.

Right click the speaker icon at the bottom right in the windows taskbar > Sounds > Recording > Right click your device > Properties > Levels > adjust the volume and dB levels there.

Brand new blutooth xbox 360 head set voice output is too quiet?

Honestly, it sounds like the mics are behaving as they should. I too have a deeper voice, and find myself having to speak louder than normal to be heard properly on my wired mic. I always have to make sure the mic input is pretty much in my mouth, or at
least right in front of it, to be heard properly.

As for the volume button, you are correct, it only dictates the ear-piece volume.

One thing I would suggest you try is to record a voice message, and play it back. Does it seem low too you? If not, it could be your friends volume settings are a bit low.

Lastly, I would make sure that your "Voice Volume" is all the way up. You can adjust this by going to Settings> Preferences>Voice.

Hope this helps, and let me know if you have anymore questions!

Everytime I launch a multiplayer game through PC game pass, the audio gets very distorted

I am using Windows 11 version 22H2. I also want to note that this only happens with multiplayer games. If it's single player, it sounds fine. I also want to note that if I plug in my wired gaming headset, but have audio come through my airpods, when i open Sea Of Thieves, it sounds fine. I'm pretty sure that this has something to do with the input quality of my airpods. According to windows, my input is "tape recorder quality" for my airpods, and it sounds as bad as a tape recorder when I open a game. Also, the input volume is at 100, and when I open a multiplayer game, the volume immediately shoots up to 100. If I change the input volume, that is the volume that it will go to when I open SoT.
