Windows 10 XBOX app issues SVCHOST.exe high cpu usage

    Hello,

i recently did a fresh install of windows 10 after originally upgrading from windows 7. My main issue before was that the xbox app would constantly crash when trying to watch full screen videos. After a fresh a install that bug has now been resolved, but
now i encounter very high cpu usage when I'm using the apps party chat feature. Both xbox and the SVCHOST.exe in task manager will be using 20% of the cpu usage each causing my desktop temps to shoot up. Suspending and ending SVCHOST.exe causes the XBOX app
to freeze then close. Is anyone else experiencing this or is there a way around SVCHOST from using so much of my computers resources.

My PC specs are as follows

    i7 4790k-Stock, 32gigs of Ram, nvidia 770gtx , and a h100i gtx for cpu cooling.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

Plex - coming to Xbox one ([email protected])

And on top of that, an SD file that just had a Dolby Digital soundtrack made the CPU Usage jump high as well. Makes no sense whatsoever.

Xbox app freezing when being left open (unused) for a certain length of time

    Hi Sigma and Bestlano,

I can confirm this issue. It has been present since windows 10 launch and feels like it has become more frequent each build. At this time being in a party chat will hang the app for certain after a while, though I will still be able to continue chatting.
In hung state the xboxapp.exe and svchost.exe (remote procedure call) run at around 15% CPU usage EACH (i7 4770K). I have continued running the app for hours in this state to keep chatting but eventually it will crash or I will have to force restart it to
use it for something else. Anyway the app is highly more likely to freeze when in a party chat but does this otherwise too, while not permanently though.

I too have reported this through the beta app.

OMG that pc is amazing on its specks.... (did you make it your self?)

sorry back to thing on hand. SVCHOST.exe is a windows way of having other programs run in the background. although this can be annoying if it is running at very high CPU. (I hate how any program --including a possible virus-- can use this and not tell
you what app is using it.) and you cant end or change the priory on the program.

one way of doing stuff is making your xbox app.(or anything else ) set to a higher priority. (to do this you can right click on the program and hit go to details or just go to details tab and right click on program you want to use. and set it to high priory.

hope that helps Windows 10 XBOX app issues SVCHOST.exe high cpu usage :)

I have the same problem sir. On top of that it makes my CPU run at up to 40% with higher temps then I get in any other program at 40% CPU usage. I should also mention that I have similar specs if not better (i7 6700k, h100i GTX). I haven'the found a fix
and I hope they are aware of the problem and working on it.

hi Lizard, What version of the app are you using? Are you also experiencing the same issue with Xbox App (Beta)? You can DL the app located here: www.microsoft.com/.../9NBLGGH1J27H
or go to the Store app, search for “Xbox beta” and it will show up as a search result. IF you are able to repro this with the beta version, please go ahead and report this issue by using the "report a problem" in the beta app. I will also report this to the
developers in our reports. Let us know how things turn out.

    Thanks for reporting,

Thanks for the response, Bestlano. I was using the version that shipped with Windows 10 and all of my apps are updated regularly. I will try the beta and report back. I have tried setting the program priority to high as I saw that was a fix but found
    no luck.

not sure on what happened to the OP, but it may seam that if not setting the priority made it work, then there is not much you can do depending on the pc, have you tried to run the app under tablet mode? (also if you are streaming your xbox one to your pc
it is going to strain your pc a bit.)

I have not tried to run it under "tablet mode", how would I go about doing that as I see no option to run in that mode. Also, I am not streaming, I am simply joining an Xbox Live party and talking to some friends. A few minutes later CPU usage spikes up
and then goes down, and that repeats until I close the program. I am 100% sure it is nothing to do with my PC as I see others with this issue with the same of different specs, also I don't have this problem with any other app/program/game.

Under the notifications (action center) there is a bunch of boxes when you open it up and tablet mode is one of the options, then you can try running the app in tablet mode and see if there is a better experience, the Xbox app is trying to keep up with parties
and stay running with out fail, now it might run hard at sometimes, I mean edge chrome and Firefox uses a wide range of CPU usage. Do you have a concern about something with the PC?

Just a note that the latest Xbox app release, version 11.13.6008.00000, has a fix in it to address a service host CPU issue. Please make sure you have this version installed as well. Thx

Oh ok thanks for the info Schief. That is probably the real reason that the issue was resolved. It was starting to become a real issue but I haven't have the problem in the last week so hopefully it's fixed.
