Windows 10 Xbox App Crashes When Uploading an (in-app) Trimmed Game Capture

    Hello,

I always capture video of interesting/funny things as I play Xbox. I have set my DVR to capture up to 2 minutes back to not miss anything good. I will later go to my laptop, open the app, download the clip, trim the video (using the Xbox app, no other editing
software), and re-upload it. Many time, the Xbox app simply crashes at 99% uploaded and continues to do such when I try it again (either the same day, or any subsequent day).

I have researched this problem and there has been no useful answers. I have cleared the cache, I have uninstalled/reinstalled the app, I have restarted my computer, etc.

I would like if I can take full advantage of this software as I like sharing clips to my friends. Any and all help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jacob

    :)

Can't access or delete clips or screenshots

I cannot view recent game capture or go delete old captures in Upload Studio. I've tried on both xbx1 and thru windows 10 app. Also when I take a capture it says it is uploading but to where? Everything worked fine till about 2pm on 12/5

Xbox App crashes when uploading captures

    DarkusFreedom16,

Thank you for the tips, but unfortunately neither of those methods solved the issue. To reiterate, I am able to upload videos that are shorter than 40 seconds. It is videos that are longer than 40 seconds that crash the app. So a 30 second clip uploads fine,
but a 1 minute clip crashes at 98%. This is very strange that it would work with shorter clips but not a clip only slightly longer.

Any other ideas how to fix this?

Windows 10 Xbox App Crashes When Uploading an (in-app) Trimmed Game Capture

    Hi Hachodo,

A corrupted file is one of the possible reasons as to why the Xbox app keeps crashing when uploading a trimmed game capture. Can you tell us the other troubleshooting steps that you have tried so far to get it fixed?

In the meantime, let's try to perform a clean boot on your computer to eliminate software conflicts. You may refer to this
    link
    for the steps.

Let us know how it goes after performing the aforementioned solutions. We'd be glad to further assist you.

Clearing my cache and uninstalling/reinstalling the app is the troubleshooting I've performed so far. I also did a clean boot to remove an antivirus software I didn't want anymore. I had the same problem before I did the clean boot as I have now after the
    clean boot.

Thank you for the reply. Let's try to run the Windows app troubleshooter to scan and repair the Xbox app. You may refer to this
    link to run the troubleshooter.

If you still encounter the same result, I recommend that you reset the Xbox app by performing the following steps:

    1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard, and then click the Settings icon.
    2. Select System, and then select Apps & features.
    3. Find the game, and then click on Advanced options.
    4. Click Reset.

Keep us updated with the results after performing the suggested solutions above.

Ran the troubleshooter and it said it was troubleshooting something with the microsoft store, not the Xbox app.

Then I tried option two. First off, Apps & Features is not listed under System. It is its own category. Second, it deleted the Xbox app. I reinstalled it and I am still having the same issue.

Windows 10 Xbox App Crashes When Uploading an (in-app) Trimmed Game Capture

I appreciate your reply. Can you tell me if the issue occurs everytime you upload any trimmed videos on the Xbox app? Also, have you checked if your Windows 10 is updated? It is possible that you need to update your Windows 10 to eliminate this issue. To
check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to
    Settings
    > Update & security > Windows Update, and select
    Check for updates.

We look forward to your reply.

Sorry for the late response, life got in the way.

My Windows 10 is updated as of today. Same issue (and a new one), trying multiple clips. When I download the original capture (so that I can trim it), it crashes. Then I reopen the app and try trimming the video. It either proceeds to crash at 99%, or trims,
and then when I try to upload it, a new error appears, and it says "Sorry, this capture can't be shared We don't recognize this game". This new issue is happening with both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Gears of War 4.

I also tried to utilize the trim functionality on my Xbox One X, and it alternates between crashing the game 'capture' app or it simply freezes the progress bar.

I was able to use the trim functionality on my friends Xbox One S a week ago with a game clip the same age.

All the games I tried to trim on my Xbox that are over a month old.

Thank you for providing us an update. Are the trimmed game captures that you're trying to upload came from Ghost Recon Wildlands and Gears of War 4? Also, have you purchased those games from the Windows Store?

Thank you for the reply. We're doing our best to investigate the issue so that we could identify what's causing you unable to post trimmed captures in the Xbox app. May I know if the issue started after installing the Windows Update on your computer? We're
suspecting that the update is affecting the functionality of the Xbox app. Also, can you check if there's an update available for Xbox Game Bar in the Windows Store?

Windows 10 Xbox App Crashes When Uploading an (in-app) Trimmed Game Capture

Again, sorry for the delay. This issue started long before the windows update. I noticed it starting to happen around March/April. Before then, I was able to do this swiftly. I also ensured that the app on the Store was updated, which it is. I just tried
this with a brand new clip that I recorded on my xbox from PUBG. When I download the clip so I can trim it, it crashed the app at 98%. When I reloaded the app, it was in fact downloaded. So I trimmed the original clip which worked fine. But then when I tried
to upload the clip, it says Sorry, this capture can't be shared We don't recognize this game". I traced the folder on my computer and the path is as follows: C:\Users\Jacob\Videos\Captures. I can play the video on both the xbox app and on my computer, but
it doesn't want to upload. Do you think this could be a problem with my path or my computer?

ALSO, the trimming function ON THE XBOX ITSELF doesn't work for me either! I trim a video and it freezes at about 75%. This is so frustrating! It is worth noting that my DVR is set to record 2 minutes at a time. Do you think this has anything to do with
    it?

So I think I discovered the root cause of the app saying "Sorry, this capture can't be shared We don't recognize this game". I noticed that when I click "My Games" It says I have no games. This is strange because I own many many
games. It is also worth noting that I Game Share as well. The crazy thing is that PUBG is a game I personally paid for.

So as soon as I download the clip, the tags on the clip stating which game it is goes away and says "unknown". That is why it will not let me upload the clip.

Okay, update. I tried downloading the Xbox Beta app. When I upload my trimmed clip, it lets me select which game I want to upload it as. So I select PUBG and it continues uploading the clip. However, we are now back at my original problem...It crashes at
about 96% and doesn't ever upload!
