    Windows 10 PC - Second HDD detected in settings but cannot be installed on.


    I've tried reinstalling everything I can, resetting all the apps, updating drivers for HDD, etc, etc. The hard drive is NTFS and shows up in the "default install" in settings, but when you actually try to install a game, only my C drive shows up. My C drive is a 250gb SSD so I literally can't install large games on it making it impossible to have multiple games installed or even certain games at all.

    Hello !

    Try a hard reset holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds or until the power shuts down, the console should detect the HDD again, if not... probably you need to fomat again the HDD to NTFS in the PC.

    i used to get the same error on one of my other pc's, i had linux installed as primary and windows 10 as a second os, dual booting.

    games that didnt need raised permissions worked ok from gamepass pc but anything that needed admin errored out, i blanked the hdd and installed windows as the primary and it worked straight away.

    my friends mac has a simular issue, and it looks to be a hardware thing as windows is checking hardware signatures for games that require admin. in the end he gave up.

    First let's double check that the external HDD works. Try to connect to a PC. If the PC detects the HDD, format the HDD.

    The plug to your console to see it detects the HDD apply the Xbox Format again.

    Every game launcher has the detect installed games feature. Why not in the Xbox app?
    Hi,

    Windows 10 games and apps does it differently. The games are encrypted and this encryption is unique to the Windows install. If you install Windows fresh again (even on the same PC) the games will be locked. You will to need to delete the WindowsApps folder to reclaim the space and install the games again.

    What you might need is an external HDD and set it to base drive in Windows 10 so anything you download goes and installs there 1TB as a minimum are very cheap nowdays 😉
