Windows 10 freezes after installing any type of GPU driver.

Hi all, I have a HD 7990 which I have just bought. I installed drivers no problem and It ran great until two of the fans stopped and the GPU reached 95 degrees momentarily. I powered down the system and upon powering back up, windows was corrupted and I had to reinstall.

Now, I cannot install any sort of GPU driver without the system hard freezing. The display is fine, there are no artifacts and YouTube videos play just fine as is web browsing. But the second I install drivers the system freezes. The same goes for Windows 10 default drivers, which I had to disable from installing manually as it had the same result as the AMD ones.

I’ve tried running in safe mode, turning Wi-Fi off, installing the correct AMD drivers via USB stick, but they all don’t work as Windows will hard freeze as soon as the GPU drivers begin to install.

My previous card (780 Ti) did not have this issue and the PC ran fine.

Does anybody know what’s causing this? Thanks

What are the rest of your system specs? Both the AMD 7990 and the GTX 780Ti are 10 year old graphics cards. Is your system also 10 years old? This old 7990 might have failing cooling fans.

Does your PC have a CPU with an integrated GPU?

The last driver for the 7990 was released 6/23/2022 (or 23 June 2022 using the dd/mm/yyyy system). There are no new drivers after this date.

Installing a graphics driver shouldn't corrupt Windows, if anything, you should still be able to start in Safe mode

You can also safely remove graphics drivers using a free application called DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller)

do you have the latest gpu drivers installed, which windows version, have you done all windows updates, vsync on or off, gsync/freesync enabled.

The GPU driver installed was by default by windows , and yes i dont see any updates pending vsync is on and gsync is not compatible with my monitor after writing this I made a close observation with task manager from what I see during first 10-15 mins the game runs smoothly and the gpu is at 84 percent usage and the CPU 91 percent but after 15 mins it starts lagging bad and almost becomes unplayable during this time the cpu is around 33 percent and the gpu at 45 percent the ram usage remains around 61-68 percent

All Windows 10 drivers, incl AMD drivers for my RX580 gpu are up to date. My pc fully meets the requirements. The issue is with actually installing Xbox Beta, it simply hangs. Same issue with Microsoft Store, the downloads just freeze.

I've reset the store by going in settings/apps/apps and features but this solves nothing at all.

The error I'm receiving is (0x8000000B)

In this case, I would suggest you to reinstall all your drivers. Maybe a driver that was installed on Windows 10 is not working very well with Xbox games on Windows 11 and may be causing the low FPS.

I would suggest you to look specially for the CPU and GPU drivers.

It's possible that since you updated your graphics driver, Battlefront 2 may have reverted to the integrated GPU. Firstly, make sure it's using your dedicated graphics processor.

You can also force this via the NVIDIA control panel.

It's not always necessary to download the latest GPU driver when a new game is released. These drivers optimise the game sure, but generally speaking, unless your drivers are extremely outdated, it's not mandatory.
