Windows 10 Anniversary update killed MS Solitaire and XBOX

Installed the anniversary update on two different computers today. On both of them, the MS solitaire collection and XBOX sign in refuses to load.

Uninstalled Solitaire and re-installed from the store but still doesn't work.

error are being reported in the event viewer:

"Activation of app Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App failed with error: The app didn't start. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information."

I didn't find "Windows-TWinUI/Operational log " so that did not help.

Both computers are producing the same error.

any ideas?

Background music and Cortana are coming this Summer to Xbox One on the Windows 10 Anniversary update! All Windows 10 apps will be coming as well!!

On top of that, all Xbox Ones will be developer kits, so anyone with an XB1 can develop games! This will be available later today!

This was announced at the MS Build show today, OMFG!!!

 

Cannot download recore on Win10

You need the Anniversary Update for Windows 10 (1607). Go to Windows Update and search for new updates and set them all up. This error is specific to not having the 1607 Anniversary update.

Basically start with the APp Troubleshooter. I don't have the update yet (DLing it now) so I'll see what happens when I get it.

 

I did run the APP troubleshooter but it did not find anything wrong.

So far no luck. Will uninstall the update and see if life will go back to normal.

 

Found the log but it was not very informative:

Activation via contract helper of the app Microsoft.MicrosoftSolitaireCollection_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App for the Windows.Launch contract failed with Server execution failed.

If I read that right, it means it doesn't work -

I "uninstalled" the update (at least that is what it let me do) but after a reboot, version 1610 is still installed and I still have the same problem.
