    Win10 Xbox App Overriding Microphone Levels


    Hey,

    So I've been trying to get the Xbox App to function properly for party chat so I can transition away from the old Companion App, but was running in to an issue of it not registering my mic at all for party chat. Even after checking the app settings and verifying
    that it was assigned to my mic it would not let me be heard at all by my party.

    Now however I've run in to a new problem after resetting the app through Settings. Currently the app is constantly overriding my mic level, despite the fact that within the Sound Control Panel, I don't give permission for apps to take exclusive control of
    the device and then also within the Xbox app there doesn't seem to be any permission option for the app itself to mess with mic levels. Watching it though, my mic is normally set at 33-35, and having the Sound Control Panel up to monitor it, I watch the level
    get turned up constantly to the 70-80 range by the Xbox App, as nothing else is doing that. Is there a way to stop the app messing with my settings? I know what level I need, and the party keep hearing all kinds of ambient noise and echo that I had dropped
    the levels specifically to avoid.

    I don't know if it is related but I had a similar issue where my microphone was working in Discord for a few seconds then would stop. I ended up going to the Settings --> Privacy --> Microphone and view the apps that are allowed to use the microphone.
    Xbox Game Bar is unchecked by default I think.

    Also, if you have another program open that can use the microphone it will possibly override other programs. For example, The Division 2 game will make Discord no longer work if I turn the in game audio on to my main microphone.

    You should check the levels of your microphone from the console.

    1. With your headset attached, press the glowing “Xbox” button
    2. Navigate to the “System” tab
    3. Select “Audio”
    4. Adjust the “Mic monitoring” option
    5. Slide the bar left to decrease the microphone volume level
    6. Slide the bar right to increase the microphone volume level

    I had changed my Xbox gamer tag a few weeks back, but it never appeared.

    but its appearing on the xbox app for win10, just not on games.

    Thank you very much. I would be nice if Microsoft could add an application-level settings such as in Skype and and Steam.

    I'm testing the level overrides and exclusive access solutions at operating system level.
