Win10 PC not detecting Xbox controller after Xbox Accessories app crashed updating firmware.

Basically the title. I got an elite controller a couple days ago, and after trying it out for a bit, I decided I wanted to rebind the paddles to something more useful. I saw I needed the Xbox Accessories app from the app store to do so, so I installed it.

After launching it, it told me my controller had a firmware update available. Thinking "Why not", I let it try installing it, and a few seconds later the app crashed and my computer no longer detects my controller.

From looking at the app reviews and searching around the web, I found I'm not the only one but I've also found no solutions aside from plugging it into an Xbone and hoping for the best.

I've checked my cables and ports, restarted my computer, reinstalled relevant drivers, tried wired and wireless connections and just about everything you can think of. It's definitely a firmware problem.

I know this has happened before and the only solution was to wait for a fix to be released, but I was hoping someone here might
have a better idea.

Xbox Accessories App crashed while installing firmware update

The Xbox Accessories app crashed in the middle of updating my controller's firmware over USB, and the controller is now unusable. Windows no longer recognizes it, and after I restarted the app, it just said, "Connect a controller to get started", so I can't
use it to play games with the original firmware or attempt the upgrade again. I've tried restarting the app, restarting Windows, unplugging and using the same/different USB port, and removing and reinstalling the batteries after several minutes, all to no
avail.

How do I reset the controller's firmware?

Xbox App crashes on launch on Windows 10

I just updated to the latest win10 v1703 and faced crashed and my controller refused to connect and some other crap. Sadly Microsoft dont provide nearly enough information.

Anyway, my finding might help someone here, what i found out the hardway is that for the "Xbox Accessories" to work properly i needed to first start the Xbox app and login to my account. Once i did that the "Xbox Accessories" program worked. Before that
it crashed when i wanted to go to Configure page.

It looks like the firmware was not fully uploaded to the Elite Controller.

Can you go to the Device Manager and check if the controller is recognized?

Another solution would be to check with someone having an Xbox One if the controller is recognized on his/her console with an USB cable.

I'm working on finding an Xbox one. Device manger is detecting it, but I'm not sure what to do with that.

 

Hello,

In Device Manager, delete the entries for the Elite Controller.

Also delete the drivers when asked. This will force a complete reinstallation of everything.

Tried that. Nothing changed, which I think confirms that it's a firmware issue, not a driver issue.

If you registered your controller, best thing to do is send it for repair.

Not much you can do about that.
