Win 8.1 upgrade breaks Minesweeper when system locale is Chinese

Using Windows 8.1. Set system locale to Chinese and minesweeper will stop working, instantly crash after being clicked.

The top comment for minesweeper in Windows Store says that Win 8.1 upgrade breaks minesweeper totally. 560+ ppl voted it up. It's posted 2 months ago (Oct. 2013). Surprisingly there is still no fix from Microsoft. Is there any Microsoft stuff reading this
forum? Could you please at least submit a bug report?

Classic theme of minesweeper

Why Chinese gamers can't use classic theme in their minesweeper game when using Chinese system language? When will Microsoft do something about that?

I have also the same problems after the free upgrade to WIN 8.1, un & reinstall didn't solve the problem!!

same with solitair and minesweeper

would be great to get any support from WIN 8 on this.

People reported this problem to Microsoft Chinese support forum and Microsoft employees replied that the problem is under investigation. We can do nothing but wait for a future fix... Also, according to the posts in this forum, seems that people using languages
other than English and Chinese also have this problem.

Another problem that annoys me is that if the system language is set to Chinese, theme switching no longer works and you can only use garden theme. This problem persists since the very first day and still no fix. It is interesting that Microsoft used modern
theme screenshots in Chinese version marketplace, but user have no access to this theme. I guess the problem is caused by the localization work, since theme change is working in Microsoft Solitaire Collection and Microsoft Mahjong...

 

As Boomer said, this is a known issue and I can assure you that I read these forums every day. I am the Community Manager at Microsoft for Windows 8 Casual Games and I submit bug reports as we get them.

The Windows 8.1 upgrade does not break Minesweeper entirely as I have Minesweeper installed on both my 8.1 desktop here at work and my 8.1 personal laptop at home. As BoomerNT said, it may be a more complex issue that involves localization files.

I will keep you posted if I hear anything else about this issue. I really want to get you back to playing our games.

I know Win 8.1 doesn't break minesweeper if system locale is set to English. However my parents cannot read English so it is totally broken for them. Hope it will be fixed when they are still alive....

 

I already reported this bug so hopefully it will be fixed soon!
