Will you make it out?
As far as opinions go, Dufful, you're right - it is your opinion, and as I have already said, I'm fine with it. Using your own example of the Mona Lisa - you may not like it, but you can still recognize the fact that it's a huge historical
piece of art. What's happening here is that people are sharing their opinion about how they don't like the retro graphics of this and many other games (which again, is fine), but they don't seem to be realizing the monumental historical importance of said
graphics and how they paved the groundwork for the spectacular and realistic graphics you and others know and love today. Instead, they treat it like yesterday's garbage when it's anything but... These "retro" graphics may show their age, but they ARE still
relevant and will always continue to be. You and others should recognize that because right now, you're all failing to do so.
I have to disagree. Just because they paved the way doesn't mean we have to like them or acknowledge it. That's irrelevant. A piece of cow hide wrapped around a foot paved the way for shoes and sneakers. If Nike started selling sheets of leather to wrap
around your foot to tie on with a string do you think people should love it because it's the way it used to be? If a country supplied their army with single-shot muskets to go to war with now, do you think the marines would be like " hell yeah, respect yo
to the guns that paved the way". If you went to a pizza joint to order pizza, but instead they gave you a bit of flour and a tomato would you like it because it paved the way for pizzas? Or how about you decide to get an addition built on your house and the
carpenters come and build it out of mud? Would you be like, " Oh yeah, look at the historical mud house I have"?

I wander if they could bring Dos to Xbox one as an app to make these game feel truely authentic. Now that would be a real treat Will you make it out? ;) No starting with a controller. Let's write in all the commands like we did in the old days. Otherwise we are neglecting where
our current operating systems and UIs came from!

I'm starting a new club........Bring back the DOS........ Who's in?

I will be passing for certain. I just do not understand why consumers are shelling out cash for 8 bit graphics. Perhaps it is a nostalgia factor. Graphics matter in most cases for me. I will get an indie game but I would like it to be solid looking (Never
Alone for example). Not like it is from 1990. I do understand that indie scene generally do not have big budget's. But my god

Like I said in my previous post.....this isn't an art style that's being brought back from your childhoods, this style game has never left us.

I guess the only thing I can take any comfort in is that you guys are in a very small minority. Escapist has 4 3/4 star rating on the One (nearly 1000 people rated) and was extremely well received on the PC. The rogue-like genre has dozens of well made and
well received games which the vast majority use minimal graphics. It's here to stay.

I do think it's a shame that many of you will never give this game a shot based on it's graphics. Most of you in that category have DA:I on your played list (many of you have played it a lot). The tactical RPG genre is another area where minimal graphics
aren't needed to make exceptional games and you'll never see the depth that can be brought to that genre because many of those games don't meet your "pretty" standard.

9. Art is subjective. Dunn care if a game is a 16 bit indie or a BB triple A game. What matters is what matters to me. A fun game. But calling this game "ART" is a bit premature...

So randver let me ask. You mentioned before that basically Ryse son of rome was a crap game. Pretty to look at but basically on rails and boring, repetitive gameplay. You just told us that this game must be good because it go 4 and a bit stars from 1000
people. Going off your own understanding of things now, does this mean that Ryse is an absolutely over the top amazballs game because it has 4 stars from 29746 people?

Now given that I loved Ryse, you tell me, who's in the minority here?

Never saw a game with more 80.000 votes on Xbox 360/One.But i'm pretty sure some sold more than 1 million copies. Those ratings doesn't means much.

The Escapists won't be on top selling games, doesn't means if is good or bad,if someone will like it or not.Just a question of taste.

So far,i enjoy it,i like the daily routines and there are a lot of things to do and to discover.

I try to act rough, beat several prisoners, now there are all after me ^^^.

Cool little game.

This thread will go on until we convince DuFFul he really likes 8-bit games and will buy The Escapists. We have a long road ahead of us! Lol.

Peace, J.R.

I understand the appeal Ryse has to many people.

It's a launch tittle that showed off the One's graphics capabilities. Someone who is a single platform gamer going from the 360 to the One Ryse is probably mind blowing.

I'm under no illusion that I'm "normal" for this forum. Most people here are single platform gamers and don't have much experience outside the Xbox brand (and many don't have much experience on the Xbox).

If I had limited gaming time and only played on the One I'd probably be playing the big AAA titles only too. It's the people that are putting 15 to 20 hrs a week into games like Destiny and then bash a game for it's graphics that I have an issue with.

Just as many of you don't want to see a gaming library filled with "retro" graphics games, I don't want to see a library full of dumbed down, content lacking, DLC filled AAA titles. I have two consoles that are gathering dust and the majority of the titles
I play on them are indie titles I've already played on the PC.

I bought the next gen consoles to play the exclusives with the quality we saw in Gears of War and Uncharted last gen and I'm seriously beginning to wander if we'll ever see that quality of game again from the big guys.

For the record, I'm not a one platform person. As you well know I'm also a pc player. As I've already said. If you guys like spending all this money on cutting edge hardware to play 8bit games, then that certainly is you prerogative. It's just not for me
and apparently it's not for anyone that I've actually showed the game to.

As I've already said, I like graphics. I didn't play and stick with gaming for the last 30 plus years to go backwards in graphics. I want realism. I want detail. I want to look at something and say, "wow look at that". Of course I want great gameplay as
well, but gameplay is personal thing. Some people like the gameplay in Ryse or destiny, some people don't. But there is no denying, they are beautiful to look at.

Also as I've said, I don't mind retro graphics, if they are done right. This to me is sloppy. But again that is totally my opinion. I'm not knocking you the for liking it. I just find it offensive that you guys want to attack us for being close minded because
we like nice graphics in our games.

This will be my last post on this subject otherwise it will go on and on. Just remember that when you post up a game asking people if they are going to be playing it, expect some no's and reasons why. Just don't call people close minded when they don't like
games for the exact reasons you do!

Ok Randver your reasoning for your opinions are silly. Length of time as a gamer and platform variety have very little sway on how harsh someone judges a game. I've been gaming for 27 years at least and have owned every Nintendo(minus Wii U), Sega(still
have most if not all) Sony, & MS consoles. I've played others as well like Commodore 64 and Atari. I have a nice gaming PC as well. I enjoy most games I play. Thought Ryse was good and absolutely loved DAI. Now as far as this graphics vs gameplay argument,
I prefer story and characters most. Will you make it out? :p
