  1. Will Xbox One X survive a USB-Killer?

I believe you have somewhat missed the point of the device, as have the others going on about people breaking into your home and using one.

A USB Killer releases an electrical charge back into a system's USB port. If the port is not correctly shielded then it can kill that system. Whether that be a PC, console, television etc. You know this but I thought it worthwhile repeating.

So why is this important? People are increasingly using external storage with their Xbox One console, quite often these external drives have their own power supply. In the event of a power surge, it is possible that the same effects of a USB Killer could be
    enacted on to the console.

While I'm sure many people have been having a laugh and a joke at the thought of someone breaking into a house just to fry a console with a USB Killer, wouldn't those same people like to know if a power surge on their external storage would just take down the
USB port of their console or the entire system?

Firstly, I have *never* used external storage for any of my Xboxes, so I'm one hundred percent sure I will *not* be using one any time soon! If people feel a NEED FOR GREED - by explicitly using external storage instead of opting for manufacturer presets
(perhaps I'm the exception, but there's more than enough room left on my 2TB One S, and by the time economies of scale kick in for One X, I've no doubt Microsoft will offer like storage with later models) - they are simply inviting trouble.

If we're discounting the [unlikelihood] of stranger infractions or external USB "killers", then what on earth does a common power surge have to do with the relevance of this thread? Indeed, why is it even a thing when people are laughing it off? Perhaps
it's just *scaremongering* for the sake of it? #downvotesOP

I have the Day 1 Edition console (with Kinect) which only has 500GB storage. I got a Seagate Slim 1TB external HDD. I have a total of 32 games installed (spread out on my console and external storage) and have used 64.4% of available space out of the two.
You can steal trust buying good brands from an authorized retailer (eg. JB Hi Fi or EB Games and others).

For consumers, security is important. Some manufacturers incorporate Corning Gorilla Glass which *helps* protect our appliances (eg. phones, some fancy laptops). Manufacturers can install security alarms for cars, which when the alarm goes off, draws the
attention from others nearby and helps act as a deterrent. A lot of laptops have a Kingston lock thingy which retail shops use, to make it slightly harder for stealers to steal it quickly. Phone manufacturers have tracking technology which can usually locate
lost/stolen phones (Google, AVG, etc). There are tones of immature people doing what have you to their own or other peoples stuff.

You know what they say during the safety demonstration on planes when you take a flight somewhere. "In the unlikely event". Of course while [hopefully] most people are not this inconsiderate, there are some who may, and the possibility still exists. There's
a first time for everything. And there have be numerous occasions when flights have gone wrong.

Some manufacturers have already created stuff with shielded ports, in response to this possible threat. It will up the price of the console if Microsoft added this safe guard in their hardware. But it would be only what, perhaps
an extra $100 at worse for 3 shielded ports rather than 3 conventional USB ports, on Xbox One X. Yes, it's an extra $100. But it would save you forking out AU$649 or NZ$749 or US$499 for another Xbox One X console. USB Killer is a *physical* attack on hardware.
There is nothing software/operating system/BIOS that can do to protect it. The answer is hardware. You can force shutdown a computer or your Xbox One, but pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds. This is particularly useful when (not if,) the
OS/software, stops responding (eg. that thing Microsoft updates every month). Well this option is not recommended, it, in it's own way, is a safeguard. It's a hardware safeguard. Retailers and manufacturers offer extended warranty on stuff. While it will cost
more, *it offers peace of mind* in the event something goes wrong.

Yes, and before I started using my One S, I too was relying upon a meager 500GB from my 'Day 1' Sunset Overdrive' SKU (or hardware & software bundle). But here's the thing about storage: you don't *need* to keep adding and adding things which aren't required!
In my case, as a 'core' gamer who plays console games to the detriment of any other distraction, I install something and then play it to COMPLETION. Unless there's a reason to leave it there (eg, expansion packs or unfinished achievements), then I simply remove
the file. It can easily be reinstalled later should the need arise. That's why the problem of storage or relying upon external solutions *doesn't* apply to me - because console gaming is supposed to be plug and play.

I think you're confusing "steal trust" and "stealers [who] steal" with semantics. When one's mind is filled to bursting with facts and figures, it's easy to forget that you can STILL trust buying good brands etc, and that "stealers" are commonly known as
    THIEVES. You're welcome. Will Xbox One X survive a USB-Killer? :)

I'm sure you know what time it is for us, or at least for NZ = 11:29 pm. Someone report me so I can go to sleep (not that the report will do anything). Maybe I should force shutdown my laptop. But that would mean doing the same for my phone, my desktop,
my 360, and my Xbox One. Thank goodness you're not my English teacher.

Wow,when I was a kid I was never allowed to stay up that late on a school night.

Make sure to lock your doors & windows or someone might break in just to connect a dodgy external hard drive or usb stick into your xbox while your asleep.

So I receive a mysterious USB mailed to me by a random bad guy who assumes I own a Xbox or said bad guy breaks into my home and instead of stealing Xbox puts USB into Xbox.

    Really?????

I know what I'll do. I'm going to plug this into my Xbox One and see what happens.

How about this, perhaps people should take responsibility for their own hardware and maybe, just maybe not plug in a dodgy looking USB device that they don't specifically know what it is.

It isn't like the Xbox is a portable device that you can leave lying around, its a console that for most people stays under their TV.
