  1. Will Xbox One support H.265?

I bought a Samsung UHD TV and run my Xbox One directly though the TV using HDMI. I use the TV optical out to my Sonos system for surround sound. I have found that I can stream UHD movies from my Samsung TV using Netflix. Apparently h.265 compression is
built-in to the TV. My issue is that Netflix from the Xbox One does not support UHD (or 4K) at this point. Does anyone know if the Xbox will upgrade to support h.265?

    :)

    Will Xbox One support H.265?

I don't think anyone knows but Microsoft themselves, but supporting H.265/HEVC seems a likely step. It would be of benefit not only for making possible deliver 2160p content, but also deliver 1080p content at lower bitrates. I wouldn't be surprised if they
start supporting it in their APIs. I would however be surprised if they'd extend that support beyond streaming services.

Maybe the pressure from portable devices using H.265 for video recording will force them to support it for file playback too.

  5. Thanks for the perspective. I think that they must do this as I have started to switch from the Xbox to the UHD TV to run Netflix even though I have Netflix on the Xbox. The TV version is much clearer due to the H.265 codex. Once you start seeing content
in UHD, it is very hard to go back. This will be an issue when UHD sets fall more in price, I suspect.

Also, I have found a Samsung USB hard drive that plays downloaded 4k content. I plug that directly into the TV, going around the Xbox. I wonder if I could attach it to the Xbox and it would "pass thru"?

  6. Now it support this H.265 now , which proves to be a smart move. For the 4k world has come , this is a must trend for almost all the gears to do . Before that , with may 4k videos udner H.265 , I have to transcode them use some converters ,then reload ,
which is very time comsuming . Anyway , glad to see this feature added.

4K resolution is widely predicted to be the main development trend of video resolution, which is on the way to all of us. While, High Efficiency Video Coding is the latest video compression standard that promises to deliver visual quality equivalent to H.264
with up to 50% bitrate savings. In most cases, to get higher video quality and definition for playback via Xbox One/Xbox 360.

I would love the ability of being able to play HEVC (H.265) encoded media through my Xbox One. Do you have the similar ideas? Fine, according to the Xbox’s supported formats limitation, it seems a little important to find some H.265/HEVC to Xbox converter
    to solve the issues, right?
