How to use the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone

It is better to hold the microphone 0.5-3 inches (1-8 cm) from your mouth at the time of singing or speaking. Don’t blow into the microphone or tap directly on the microphone windscreen.

It is possible to use up to two wired or wireless controllers together with the microphones. You cannot use a microphone if a wired headset is connected to your console. But the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone doesn’t interfere with any other wired or wireless Xbox 360 accessories.

    The Microphone indicator lights

You can easily understand your microphone status from the built in lights shining.

    • If the lights flash green one time every second, it indicates that the power is on.
    • If the lights flash green four times every second, it indicates that the microphone is connecting.
    • If the lights flash blue and then stops, it means that the connection is completed.
    • If the lights flash green one time every second, it means that your microphone is out of the wireless range of your console.
It is also very important to understand the battery status signals.

    • If the battery of your microphone is low, the lights will flash amber one time every three seconds.
    • If the battery status is critical, the lights will flash amber one time every second.

How to connect a wireless Microphone to your Xbox 360 console

You can use the Xbox 360 Wireless Microphone with the Xbox video game and entertainment system. Before connecting the Microphone to a console, you have to insert the batteries. The microphone supports only AA (LR6) alkaline or fully charged Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries.

Note: The microphone doesn’t include a charging system. So, you must charge the batteries in an appropriate charging device.

Now you can create a wireless connection between the microphone and your console. Will Xbox One ever get a wireless microphone like Xbox 360? :)

Connect the microphone to the console

It is possible to connect up to four Xbox Wireless Microphones at one time, depending on your configuration and game support. Each microphone will be assigned to one of the four lights surrounding the power button of the console. But the quadrant will only light up if a controller is connected to the console.

Note: If four microphones are connected to the console, two of them can be used to sing. The other two microphones can be used as percussion instruments.

To connect a microphone to the console, follow the steps bellow:

    • First, you need to turn on your console.
    • Now press and hold the power button on the microphone until the lights start flashing. It’ll take about three seconds.
    • You need to press and hold the power button on the microphone again until the light start flashing quickly. It’ll also take about three seconds.
    • When the microphone’s lights stop flashing and the lights surrounding the power button on the console spin and flash one time, the microphone is connected.
    • If you want to connect more microphones follow the steps above.

If you want to turn off your microphone, you’ll have to press and then release the power button. If the microphone is idle for 15 minutes, it’ll go to sleeping mode till you start to use it again.

    Notes:

    • You cannot connect a microphone to multiple consoles at a time. But you can connect the microphone to a new console any time disconnecting it from the previous one.
    • You can use a microphone within 33 feet (10 meters) of the console. However, other radio frequency-emitting devices or objects between the microphone and the console may reduce this range.
    • If the microphone is out of wireless range, the lights will flash green on time every second.

My turtle beach headset is already wireless so this doesn't interest me. Have you thought of just getting yourself a good headset?

  5. @ Dufful, don't take it personally... you're only about the thousandth person to say that in these forums, but... I (and probably a few others) am just about sick of hearing it.

Seriously. It just seems like all anyone can say is 'get a headset, Turtle Beach... Triton or whatever is the latest, greatest'. Sorry, but that's a total BS, lackluster brush off... it just is and it's certainly not even close to a valid answer for those
who don't want or need one.

I already have hundreds invested in my SS system and I did so just for gaming. Why in the hell would I want to spend hundreds (+/-) more for a headset with SS I don't need, just to get a mic that's wireless? Really? I have pets that I like to 'keep an ear
out for' while I'm gaming... I have a wife that will occasionally need to tell me something as well. Much easier with the setup I have now and more convenient.

All I need is a small, light, comfortable earpiece for communication during MP sessions... not a big amalgamation of ear-muffs, speakers and whatever else needs to strap to your head just to have a 'wireless mic'. Sorry, but for those of us who already have
SS systems that we're perfectly happy with, that has to be the worst solution imaginable. Again, not singling you out personally and/or purposely... just sayin'.

Full headsets are better for late night gaming or early morning even. Those ear pieces are useless in those instances.

I have a nice SS system that I use the majority of the time though.

Oh so basically you want a completely wireless headset because the cord that goes from the controller to your earpiece is just sooooo in the way! Oh and by the way..... How the hell can you hear surround sound properly when one ear is completely blocked
by an earpiece being stuck in it? You might as well be deaf in one ear in which case, SS isn't really going to be of much use. I too have a really good SS setup but when I'm chatting with people I'd always prefer a headset. Besides its not like I can have
the SS system to loud when chatting anyway. It annoys others in the party when they can hear all you guns and explosions pumping through the mic.

  9. Actually, yes... it in fact is in the way. Sometimes I like to run to the kitchen quick between games, during loading screens... w/e and grab a quick drink or something. Easily done when all I had to do was lay my controller down, leave the earpiece in and
go. But now, it's either fiddle around taking off the headset and fighting around with the wire in the process, run to the fridge, come back (having missed any conversation in the meantime), put the thing back on... or the absolutely wonderful other option
of dragging the controller with me. Because, you know, that shouldn't get in the way either when I'm grabbing a snack or drink. How convenient!

Sooo... because you don't like the idea of having a mic 'negating' the whole idea of SS, that means it has to affect me the same way? Oh I'm so sorry! I never realized that it should bother me that way! All this time I was still able to hear my SS system,
even at medial levels with the mic and it never bothered me! I'll have to correct that issue right away and make sure that it bothers me the next time.

Perhaps I should just adopt all of your traits, so that all of my preferences match yours? Guess I should have my home and family environment meet up with your standards and make sure their preferences and annoyances match up as well? That way I'll feel
compelled to go out and waste money I don't need to, on a cool gaming headset I don't need. All because you and all the kewl kids have one and like it... yeah lol I'll get right on that...

Quick addition: BTW, I've never had anyone complain about gunfire and explosions echoing through the mic while I had my SS on. Not once. Perhaps you need to get your hearing checked? If you're having that issue? IDK...

It's 2014, we should not have to be dealing with corded mics anymore. A wireless chat headset over one ear may not be the perfect solution for every gamer, all the time, but, for the reasons Blue Illusion has pointed out (and many others), a SS headset isn't
    either.

I don't understand how they could go a year without releasing a simple wireless headset as pictured in the OP, or at least some sort of wireless adapter for the controller that has BT or standard WiFi transmitters so that most common headsets & earpieces
    would be compatible.

BTW, here are some other reasons you might prefer a chat headset and SS over SS headphones:

    - Listening to a baby monitor while sneaking in some gaming

    - When you have other people in your gaming room that you want to talk to (just mute yourself)

    - When you want to go to the bathroom without either removing your headset or carrying the controller with you

    - Maybe you want to run downstairs and throw in a load of laundry between matches, but also want to keep your headset on to keep talking with your friends

I do agree that I have to keep the volume down a bit on my SS when playing with the chat headset on because otherwise the other players will hear my game audio over my mic. But I imagine that if I looked into it, I could find a BT or WiFi headset that would
be better at isolating my voice from the ambient sound in the room than the one that comes packaged with the xbox one. If only the XO was compatible with the most common technologies of today, or at least if MS would release their own WiFi Direct chat headset
    for the console.

And I'm pretty sure Surround Sound would still work even if you were deaf in one ear. Just not as well.

Microsoft just doesnt make good headsets compared to turtle beach. I had to shout into my xbox 360 bluetooth wireless headset so threw it out. The headset which came with my xbox 360 slim 250gb console broke inside its warranty. My turtle beach x42s are
wireless anyway comes with a dual band 2.4/5ghz transmitter which eliminates 2.4ghz wireless transmission technology. And its dolny sound and can use it to chat and can use it both on xbox 360 and xbox 1.
